Puccinellia tenuiflora is the most saline-alkali tolerant plant in the Songnen Plain, one of the three largest soda saline-alkali lands worldwide. Here, we investigated the physicochemical properties of saline-alkali soils from the Songnen Plain and sequenced the transcriptomes of germinated P. tenuiflora seedlings under long-term treatment (from seed soaking) with saline-alkali soil extracts.

Ginseng rusty root symptoms (GRS) is one of the primary diseases of ginseng. This disease leads to a severe decline in the quality of ginseng. It has been shown that the occurrence of GRS is associated with soil environmental degradation, which may involve changes in soil microbiology and physicochemical properties.

A large population of rural or hills of Uttarakhand is still facing the energy crisis in the household as well as for small and medium scale industries due to insufficient supply of fuel and electricity. The supply of coal and LPG is irregular for far-flung areas which make them bound to depend solely on wood for fuel. Therefore, a study was undertaken to evaluate the physical and thermal properties of pine needle biochar briquettes to check its feasibility as sustainable solid biofuel for the hills of Uttarakhand.

Physico- chemical properties of soil have profound influence on soil enzyme acid phosphatases activity. To study the distribution of soil enzyme acid phosphatase and influence of physico- chemical properties on soil enzyme acid phosphatases activity forty soil samples were collected from different villages of Ranga Reddy district of Telangana state. These samples were analysed for the physicochemical properties like pH, EC, available nutrients, texture and organic carbon and soil enzyme activity was assayed.

Soil fertility evaluation of an area is an important aspect in context of sustainable agriculture production. The macro nutrients govern the fertility of soils and control the growth and yields of crops. In the present investigation Narayanpur block was selected in the district Mirzapur of Uttar Pradesh and studied the available macronutrient status and their relationship with physico-chemical properties. Mirzapur district have different cropping systems and irrigated by Ganga canal and Tube well tributaries.

Field experiment was conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra- Senapati, Manipur for two consecutive kharif seasons of years 2014 and 2015 to find out most efficient and economic combination of different organic and inorganic sources of nutrients to increase the productivity of maize (Zea mays L.) without deteriorating the soil qualities. Application of 100% NPK recommended dose of fertilizers in combination with biofertilizers (Azotobacter) and incorporation of vermicompost @5 t/ha improved soil physicochemical properties (viz. decrease in acidic pH).

A field experiment was conducted in kharif 2011on blackgram genotype T-9. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replication and thirteen treatments. There was significant improvement recorded in yield, nutrient content, uptake and physico-chemical properties viz. pH, electrical conductivity, organic carbon and available N and P of soil under black gram crop. Grain yield was increased by 47.06% in treatment T13 over control while, organic carbon showed significantly highly positive correlation with available nitrogen (r=.878) in post harvest soil.

The role of humic acid for enhancing biofertilization performance was studied on production potential of cabbage in alluvium soil. Application of Pseudomonas fluorescens (P. fluorescens) in combination with humic acid was evaluated. The results indicated that the P. fluorescens and humic acid both are significantly influenced the productivity of cabbage and physicochemical properties of soil.

Soil quality is one of the important factors controlling yields of the crops. Soil characterization in relation to evaluation of fertility status of the soils of an area or region is an important aspect in the context of sustainable agricultural production. Soil physicochemical parameters are more important that control its quality. Variation in nutrient supply is a natural phenomenon and some of them may be sufficient whereas others deficient.

A field study was carried out on Alluvial soils of Varanasi to analyse the short term impacts of replacing mineral by organic fertilizers on the physico-chemical properties and enzyme activities relevant for soil fertility and crop production. Three types of fertilization regimes were tested viz., no fertilizer, conventional as 100% RDF by inorganic fertilizer and combined integrated fertilizer in which 70% RDF with 30% of the nitrogen were supplied by either FYM or pressmud or vermicompost or combination of these two or all.

The experiment was carried out at, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura-Sopore, SKUAST-K during 2017-2018, to study “Soil Physico-chemical properties in some soils of district Baramulla under different Land use systems”. The land use systems studied included apple, paddy, maize, vegetables, forest and pasture. Composite soil samples were collected randomly for each land use system at a depth (0-20 cm) and were analyzed for soil texture, pH, EC, CEC, organic carbon and calcium carbonate. The soils were found to possess medium to moderately fine texture.

The present study was conducted to assess the effect of three agricultural land-uses viz. cropland, horticultural land and uncultivated land on soil quality and fertility status. Soil samples were collected from south-western plains of Punjab which is classified under semi-arid climate. Samples were analysed for assessment of some selected soil physicochemical properties as well as macro and micro nutrient status. Results of the investigation reported that soil samples of the study area are slightly alkaline and non-saline in nature.
