Phytochemical investigation antioxidant activities

Alpinia vietnamica H.Ð. Tran, Luu & Skornick was identified as a new species in 2019, which is widely distributed in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, and Kon Tum provinces, Vietnam. The current study wishes to report phytochemical investigation, and the biological activities (cytotoxic, antioxidative, and α-glucosidase inhibitory) of isolated compounds.

The medicinal plants combine three properties – curative, preventive and nutritive which provide the human body with necessary strength and vigour to cope with the disease and facilitate the action of the curative agents in the herbal drug. The major prevalent killers of India are cancer, diabetes, heart and liver diseases (Debnath et al., 2015).

Ricinus communis Linn. (Castor oil plant) is a monotypic species of Ricinus genus (Euphorbiaceae) and widely distributed in all tropical countries. Phytochemical data of this plant are scarce. As part of ongoing research on a survey of Vietnamese medicinal plants, the investigation of this plant was performed. The isolation and structural determination of five phenolic compounds isolated from the leaves of R. communis Linn. growing in Binh Phuoc province were addressed.
