Enhancement in phosphorus (P) efficiency of crop plants require a better understanding of alterations in root architecture phenes and physio-biochemical processes under phosphorus deprived condition. This study analyzed the morpho-physiological and biochemical alterations associated with P efficiency of crop. Six pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp] genotypes (AL1758, AL1817, AL201, H005, ICPL93081, and ICPL88039) were tested under two P treatments [P fertilizer not added in soil and recommended dose of P (Single Super phosphate @ 250kg/ ha)].

Resistance against insect pests is a crucial trait for the stability and sustainability of pigeonpea production. A field trail was conducted to quantify relative tolerance and sensitivity in9 new long duration pigeonpea genotypes including local control against pod fly during Kharif2017-18 at the Entomological Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. In general, it was observed that none of the genotypes were found completely resistant to pests although these originated as least susceptible, moderately susceptible and highly susceptible.

Genotype x environment interaction and stability analysis in pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Mill sp.]
Twenty one pigeonpea genotypes were evaluated at four environments during kharif 2018-19, to study genotype × environment interaction for yield and its contributing traits. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replication. Analysis of variance in each environment and on a pooled basis expressed a significant difference among genotypes for yield and yield contributing characters except for branches per plant and seeds per pod.

One hundred and thirty eight pigeonpea genotypes were analyzed for molecular genetic diversity using 34 SSR markers with putative function for drought tolerance. The study revealed considerable molecular genetic diversity among genotypes. Fifty two alleles were obtained with 34 SSR markers while, 1 to 3 alleles was scored with an average of ~1.6 alleles for each SSR. Three alleles were amplified by markers ASSR1, ASSR93 and ASSR97. Of these, 15 SSR markers were found to be polymorphic which identified 33 alleles among 138 genotypes.

The estimates of genotypic correlation coefficients in general were higher than their corresponding phenotypic correlation coefficients indicating strong inherent association among the traits. The seed yield per plant had significant and positive association with number of primary branches plant-1, number of secondary branches plant-1 , number of pods plant-1 , number of seeds plant-1 , biological yield plant-1 , seed yield (kg/ha) harvest index and 100-seed weight at both genotypic as well as phenotypic levels.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the genetic divergence among twenty five pigeonpea germplasm using Mahalonobis D2 statistics for seven different traits during kharif 2015. Analysis of variance depicted the significant differences among the traits which indicated the presence of variability in the germplasm. D2 clustering grouped the genotypes into ten clusters. Based on the intercluster distance (1844.86) cluster VIII and X were the most diversified clusters and genotypes from these clusters can be used in the hybridization programme for further improvement.

Twenty one genotypes of pigeonpea were used to investigate the nature and magnitude of association of seed yield with major agronomic characters viz., plant height (cm), days to 50 per cent flowering, days to maturity, number of branches, number of pods per plant and 100 seed weight (g). This research also focussed on finding the direct and indirect effect of the various yield contributing characters on seed yield by path coefficient analysis.
