  • In this study, Lythrum salicaria plant was tested in hydroponic culture to demonstrate its zinc accumulating capacity and tolerance to different zinc levels. Lythrum salicaria seedlings were grown in 10% Hoagland solution containing 0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75, and 100 mg/L zinc, and 30 mg/L zinc with different pH levels (5, 6, and 7). Following this, the seedlings were harvested after 1st, 2nd, 4th and 7th days. Zinc caused significant decreases in the relative values of the mean root-shoot length and fresh weight of the plant (92 to 75%; 100 to 92%; 64.2 to 41.

  • Rice is particularly effective, compared to other cereals, at accumulating arsenic (As), a nonthreshold, class 1 human carcinogen in shoot and grain. Nano-zinc oxide is gradually used in agricultural production due to its adsorption capacity and as a nutrient element.

  • When comparing the heavy metals accumulation in the two cultivars, the results showed that the BT cultivar had higher Cd uptake and accumulation potential than ET. Therefore, BT can be used for phytoremediation of heavy metals in soil but not for providing food and feed.

  • This study was done to recognize the capacity of C. demersum for different concentrations of lead element in lab aqueous ecosystem. The concentrations of 10, 20 and 30 ppm were used in three replications for each concentration for 30 days. The results showed that the plant can remove 30 ppm of Pb. Significant differences were found in removing capacity by plant for Pb, in all concentrations 10, 20, 30 during experiment period. There was accumulation in the stem more than the leaf. The highest removal ratio for Pb in the stem was 10.25 ppm, 9.

  • Effluent borne heavy metals in soil ecosystem can result into phytotoxic levels impair plant growth. Long-term accumulation of toxic metals in soils and their uptake by crop plants has a high potential for phytotoxicity besides entering into the food chain. Soils in both the districts were slightly acidic to neutral. The cation exchange capacity (CEC) was highest in maize wheat production system and least in pasture system in soils of district Samba, and whereas least was observed in rice wheat system in soils of Kathua.

  • A weed is essentially any plant which grows where it is not required. A weed can be thought of as any plant growing in the wrong place at the wrong time and doing more harm than good. Weeds are the most severe and widespread biological constraint to crop production, and cause invisible damage till the crop is harvested. The composition and competition by weeds are dynamic and dependent on soil, climate, cropping and management factors. Weeds decrease the value of land, particularly perennial weeds, which tend to accumulate on long fallows; increase cost of cleaning.

  • Physiological parameters and expression levels of drought related genes were analyzed in early vegetative stage of two bread wheat cultivars (Sids and Gmiza) differ in drought tolerance capacity. Both cultivars were imposed to gradual water depletion started on day 17 till day 32 after sowing. Sids, the more tolerant cultivar to drought showed higher fresh and dry weights than the drought sensitive genotype, Gmiza.

  • Gram-negative bacterial endophytes have attracted research interest caused by their advantageous over epiphytic bacteria in plant nutrition and protection. However, research on these typically Gram-negative endophytes has deficiencies concerning the role of cultivation and pre-formulation strategies on further plant colonisation capabilities. Besides, the influence of cultivation conditions and osmotic stress within bacterial endophytes on their phosphate solubilising ability has not yet been addressed.

  • Ocimum basilicum L. seedlings were exposed to diff erent concentrations of Cr (0-8 mg L-1 of Cr3+) to evaluate the cellular localisation of chromium, plant accumulating capacity, and potential cellular defence mechanisms against Cr stress.

  • Given that the characteristic of free floating plants to uptake metals can have a positive effect on the efficiency of the remediation process of a wetland, it is important to investigate the factors that may impact the process of uptake of metals by the plants.
