These isolates were screened, in vitro, according to their capacities to produce plant growth promoting substance i.e. IAA, phosphate, potassium solubilization, chitinase activities and hydrogen cyanide. Results indicated that 36 bacterial isolates showed IAA production, 25 HCN production, 57 chitinase activities, 39 phosphate and 105 potassium solubilizers.

Beneficial biofilms developed by nitrogen fixing bacteria and P - solubilising fungi in vitro conditions and also used as biofertilizers in non - leguminous crops and also observed that the bacteria colonized fungal mycelia to form biofilms. The biofilms showed high rates of biological nitrogen fixation and organic acid production which directly influences the synthesis of indole acetic acid like substances than microbes when used as monocultures. (Seneiviratne et al., 2003).

Biofertilizers play a significant role in fixing atmospheric nitrogen, production of growth promoting substances and making phosphorous available to the plants hence the application of biofertilizers is very essential to the plant (Upadhayay et al., 1999).

The application of hydrocarbon degrading microorganisms in bioremediation applications is a promising approach to accelerate the clean-up of polluted soils. The use of microorganisms to accelerate the natural detoxification processes of toxic substances in the soil represents an alternative ecofriendly and low-cost method of environmental remediation compared to harmful incineration and chemical treatments.

Waxes are esters of long-chain fatty acids with long-chain fatty alcohols found abundant in the environment in various forms. Bacteria degrading these waxes in agricultural residues, soils and insects are gaining increased attention. In India, about 500 million tonnes of crop residues are generated annually and these crop residues are rich in cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, pectin, cutin, waxes, fats and oils. Accumulation of waxy rich crop residues in the environment decreases the rate of decomposition and increase the hydrophobicity of soils.

Activated charcoal is often used in plant tissue culture to improve cell growth and development by absorbing the beneficial plant growth promoting substances from the media. Thus the main aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different concentrations of activated charcoal on the recalcitrant varieties of potato. The MS media strength (full and half) did not influence the plant growth and development of potato varieties as both the strengths did equally well in combination with lower concentration of activated charcoal (200mg/l).

Plant growth promoting rhizo-bacteria (PGPR) affect plant growth by producing and releasing secondary metabolites (plant growth regulators/phytohormones/biologically active substances), facilitating the availability and uptake of certain nutrients from the root environment and inhibiting plant pathogenic organisms in the rhizosphere. At the same time, plants produce root exudates containing e.g. sugars, amino acids, organic acids, vitamins, enzymes and organic or inorganic ions.

Bush pepper is a miniature black pepper (Piper nigrum L.) plant grown in the form of a bush as potted plant with decorative and economic value, raised from lateral branches (plagiotrops) of yielding vines. Growth hormones and plant growth promoting rhizomicroorganisms were evaluated for their effects on rooting of plagiotropic cuttings of black pepper.

Azotobacter is an aerobic, free living bacteria fixes atmospheric nitrogen in soil besides producing plant growth promoting substance. Eight Azotobacter isolates were isolated and purified from different tasar rearing regions of West Singhbhoom, Jharkhand on Jenson media by using serial dilution technique. Molecular diversity among these isolates was analysed using RAPD primers.

PGPB are free-living soil, rhizosphere, rhizoplane, and phylosphere bacteria that, under some conditions, are beneficial for plants Most of the activities of PGPB have been studied in the rhizosphere. PGPB promote plant growth by directly affect the metabolism of the plants by providing substances that are usually in short supply. The present investigation was conducted at Department of Biological Sciences, Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (Deemed-to-be University) Allahabad, during Rabi season 2015-16.

The rapidly increasing population is exerting immense pressure on agricultural lands for higher crop yields, which results in increasing use of chemical fertilizers. That’s why fungicides are widely used in agricultural crop production system for quick result and to ensure crop quality and production. However, the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals resulted in adverse effect on the soil fertility, quality of produce, crop productivity and cause adverse effects to aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem.

Aquaculture is growing drastically over the years with intensification. On the other hand intensification increased the stress, occurrence of diseases, introduction of new pathogens and application of the synthetic chemical substances to overcome these problems. Recently adoption of herbal medicine in aquaculture practices is becoming the trend due its advantages over the chemical substances. Plants are storehouses and sources of safer and cheaper chemicals.

Indian soils are rich in microbial diversity, especially fluorescent pseudomonads (FPs) have drawn much attention worldwide because of their plant growth promotion ability by the production of plant growth promoting substance like Indole acetic acid (IAA). In this context, the present study explored for optimization and characterization of IAA production by our isolate Pseudomonas sp VSMKU 4050. The maximum IAA production was observed in King’s B broth (KBB) supplemented with 0.7% L – tryptophan.

Contamination of agriculture land by heavy metals is a worldwide risk that has sped up noticeably since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Hence, there arise the demands of heavy metal tolerant plant growth promoting bacterial strains for specific metal contaminated agricultural sites restoration. In this study, 36 bacterial isolates were screened out from the rhizospheric soil of Phaseolus vulgaris.

Endophytic actinomycetes colonize in living plant tissues without causing harm to the host plant. In fact, they are regarded as effective bio-control agents and plant growth promoters due to their ability to activate plant self-immunity and produce biologically active secondary metabolites. Recent studies reported higher rates in finding new strains and antimicrobial substances among endophytes than actinomycetes from soil and plant surface.
