Plant leaf disease detection

This research focuses on developing a method to optimize the DCNN (Deep Convolutional Neural Network) classification model for plant diseases. We enriched the data by incorporating data from two public datasets, PlantVillage Dataset (PVD) and CroppedPlant Dataset (CPD), and we trained the model using two-step transfer learning.

Citrus Yellow Mosaic Virus (CYMV) disease and citrus greening bacterium are two important diseases in citrus. Citrus yellow mosaic virus (CYMV) disease is caused by bacilliform DNA virus while citrus greening disease caused by a fastidious bacterium (Candidatus liberibacter asiaticus) (Cla). Both the pathogens are infected citrus plants may detected by PCR using leaf tissues midrib tissue incase of greening.

This system uses micro-controller board based on ATmega328. It can also help to detect the type of diseases occurring, by analysis of the leaves using Kmeans segmentation algorithm in the MATLAB software. By the use of this system, assistance in the optimum growth of plants is possible, can increase the yield and also lessen the frequency of visit to the fields, enabling the farmer to focus on other agricultural activities.

Citrus tristeza disease (CTD) is the most dangerous and lethal viral disease among all the viral diseases that attack to the citrus. It is caused by Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) belongs to the genus Closterovirus in the family Closteroviridae. For quick and reliable detection of CTV a one-step RT-PCR technique was standardised. The total RNA from the leaf sample was extracted by using the Quiazen RNAeasy plant mini kit. The RT-PCR kit was used for the RT-PCR reaction and the primers specific to the coat protein component of the virus is used for detection.

Green gram bacterial leaf spot pathogen X. axonopodis pv. vignaeradiatae was isolated from diseased samples collected from different locations of Udaipur district. The pathogenicity was proved on one month old green gram plants of cv. SML-668 and isolate Xav-02 (Bhatewar) was found more virulent with 4 days incubation period and require 12 days for disease development. Initially dark brown water soaked spots were found on cotyledons and then appeared on leaves and stem of seedlings. On leaves, irregular dark brown raised necrotic spots were developed with shot holes.

Citrus tristeza virus, the most important viral disease of citrus, is reported in Assam and other NE states of India to infect Khasi mandarin (Citrus reticulata), the most economically important citrus crop of the region. For effective management, an attempt was made to identify a potential mild isolate against virus. Leaf samples were collected from Khasi Mandarin plants expressing differential symptoms from three different locations viz., Tinsukia, Golaghat and Mariani of Upper Brahmaputra Valley Zone of Assam. These were then grouped into three categories based on ELISA OD405 values.

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) from the small phylum Glomeromycota forms symbiotic association with the roots of higher plants. The AMF appears to benefit by improving the uptake of phosphate and other nutrients from soil and also increases the disease tolerance to the host plant. Mycorrhizal plants produce certain substances that have been indicated as copartners in resistance to the attack of root pathogens.

Cotton Leaf Curl Disease (CLCuD) is a devastating disease in cotton and cause seed cotton yield loss upto 80% in Northern India. Transmission of CLCuD by Bemisia tabaci, the role of alternative weed hosts, infested cotton plants is well understood. However, the relationship of viruliferous whitefly population and CLCuD incidence is still not clear. We aimed to pursue a detailed study on the effect of general whitefly population and viruliferous whitefly population on CLCuD percent disease index (PDI) and their correlation.

In a review of their own research the authors summarize incidences and distributions of the most important fungal diseases in Ethiopia and progress in breeding for resistance. Ethiopia, as the centre of origin for Coffea arabica, hosts a large diversity of germplasm. The incidences of diseases are based on observations in the montane rainforests of the southeast (Harenna) and southwest (Bonga, Berhane-Kontir, Yayu) of Ethiopia.

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is one of the most important crops in Vietnam for providing food, starch sources, and raw materials for the production of bio-ethanol and other purposes. Cassava bacterial blight (CBB) disease, caused by Xanthonomas axonopodis pv. manihotis (Xam), is one of the most important factors affecting cassava production in Vietnam. A rapid and sensitive molecular tool is required to support the traditional method, primarily based on biochemical reactions, that was considered less sensitive and time-consuming.

Plant samples were collected from the main apple growing provinces of Turkey in order to evaluate the incidence of 4 important apple virus diseases during spring 2004. Collected leaves and shoots were tested using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for Apple mosaic virus (ApMV), Apple stem grooving virus (ASGV) and Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV).
