Ebook "Sulfur assimilation and abiotic stress in plants" discusses the aspects of sustainable crop production with sulfur, the importance of sulfur metabolites and sulfur metabolizing enzymes in abiotic stress management in plants. Sulfur is one of the four major essential elements necessary for the plant life cycle. Its assimilation in higher plants and its reduction in metabolically important sulfur compounds are crucial factors determining plant growth and vigor and resistance to stresses.

Ebook "Endospore-forming soil bacteria" following chapters that describe the current classification of these organisms, that review methods for their detection and for studying their life cycles in soils, and that examine their dispersal, other chapters show that they are active and dynamic members of soil floras that interact widely with other soil inhabitants, with roles in nitrogen fixation, denitrification, and soil remediation.

Foxtail millet (Setaria italica) is a diploid C4 panicoid species. Because of its prominent drought resistance, small genome size, self-pollination, and short life cycle, foxtail millet has become an ideal model system for studying drought tolerance of crops. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous, small RNAs that play important regulatory roles in the development and stress response in plants.

Seedling establishment is a crucial and vulnerable stage in the crop life cycle which determines further plant growth. While many studies are available on salt tolerance at the vegetative stage, the mechanisms and genetic bases of salt tolerance during seedling establishment have been poorly investigated.

Unlike animals, plants can pause their life cycle as dormant seeds. In both plants and animals, DNA methylation is involved in the regulation of gene expression and genome integrity. In animals, reprogramming erases and re-establishes DNA methylation during development.

In plants, the existence and possible role of epigenetic reprogramming has been questioned because of the occurrence of stably inherited epialleles. Evidence suggests that epigenetic reprogramming does occur during land plant reproduction, but there is little consensus on the generality and extent of epigenetic reprogramming in plants.

Brown algae evolved complex multicellularity independently of the animal and land plant lineages and are the third most developmentally complex phylogenetic group on the planet. An understanding of developmental processes in this group is expected to provide important insights into the evolutionary events necessary for the emergence of complex multicellularity.

The results showed that SS demonstrated substantially higher impact in total (5.47 Pt) and across each of the endpoint categories, most notably human health (3.12 Pt). Further investigations demonstrated that this was largely fed by the respiratory inorganics midpoint category that accounted for 50 % of the total impact (2.75 Pt).

‘Apogee’ has a very short life cycle among wheat cultivars (flowering 25 days after planting under a long day and without vernalization), and it is a unique genetic material that can be used to accelerate cycling breeding lines. However, little is known about the genetic basis of the super-short life of Apogee wheat.

Garlic bulbs are abnormal expanding axillary buds that are rarely found among vascular plants. Bulbyield is one of the valuable agronomic traits of garlic. However, due to the large genome size and a strictly asexual life cycle in the cultivars, the genetic basis of the yield traits are poorly understood in garlic.

Gymnosporangium spp. are fungal plant pathogens causing rust disease and most of them are known to infect two different host plants (heteroecious) with four spore stages (demicyclic). In the present study, we sequenced the transcriptome of G. japonicum teliospores on its host plant Juniperus chinensis and we performed comparison to the transcriptomes of G. yamadae and G. asiaticum at the same life stage, that happens in the same host but on different organs.

Walnut (Juglans regia) is an important tree cultivated worldwide and is exposed to a series of both abiotic and biotic stress during their life-cycles. The heat stress transcription factors (HSFs) play a crucial role in plant response to various stresses by regulating the expression of stress-responsive genes.

Over the life cycle of perennial trees, the dormant state enables the avoidance of abiotic stress conditions. The growth cycle can be partitioned into induction, maintenance and release and is controlled by complex interactions between many endogenous and environmental factors.

Population fluctuations of root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita during crop season were studied on cucumber in two poly-houses of different locations. For the observations plant and soil samples were taken at fifteen days intervals throughout the crop season up to 120 days. Results showed that lowest 2.60 and highest 74.00 galls/5g roots of cucumber found at 15 and 120 days after sowing. No egg masses observed just 15 days after sowing of crops due to root-knot nematode complete their entire life cycle within 25 to 30 days.

Seed germination and subsequent seedling growth define crucial steps for entry into the plant life cycle and proper seed germination is a basic prerequisite for getting a better crop yield. Hence standardization of hydropriming duration in spinach seeds is an important pre-requisite to improve physiological and biochemical parameters, therefore seeds were soaked in different time intervals from 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 and 32 hours.
