Population advocates

Gender-based violence has still become one of the debates among academics and policymakers. Studies in Vietnam on gender violence against women are still limited. This study aims to explore gender violence further among young women. The sample size is 650 for online surveys and 12 people in in-depth interviews.

Due to the ageing population and improving diagnostics and treatments, the number of cancer patients and cancer survivors is increasing. Policymakers, patients and professionals advocate a transfer of (part of) cancer care from the hospital environment to the primary care setting, as this could stimulate personalized and integrated care, increase cost-effectiveness and would better meet the patients’ needs and expectations.

This study examines how financial literacy and financial innovation can improve financial inclusion among households in Uganda. Large sections of the population in rural and urban areas in Uganda still remain out of the coverage of formal financial systems. The study uses a cross sectional survey research design. The study population comprised of the adult population in both rural and urban settings in Uganda. Empirical data was analyzed using correlation and regression analyses.

In all instances, interviewees were given the option of speaking for attribution or off-the-record, and almost all respondents elected to speak off-the-record. A complete listing of the more than 100 interviewees for the overall study will be included as an appendix to the final report. The selection of interviewees considered that individuals from the bench scientist through the agency staff analyst to the politically appointed decisionmaker, as well as advocates from outside the agency, would provide informative perspectives.

Expand existing hiv prevention interventions. WHO will develop an evidence-based HIV prevention package for the health sector and support its implementation at the national level. The design of the prevention package will reflect the findings of a review of behavioural interventions and advice on how they can best be combined with other interventions in a range of health settings. WHO will provide guidance on delivering combined prevention activites in generalized epidemics, including optimal approaches for key populations, such as women, girls and young people.

We do the research that identifies causes of disease and disability. We advocate for solutions. We consult with policymakers and provide them with the evidence they need to make change. We roll our sleeves up and get to work in communities by influencing policies, identifying trends, implementing solutions, and increasing healthy behavior. Our work happens on a molecular level, and on a population-wide level. Microbiologists work to find a vaccine for malaria, while behavioral scientists research ways to discourage populations from smoking.

Domain-specic internet portals are growing in popularity because they gather content from the Web and organize it for easy access, retrieval and search. For example, www.campsearch.com allows complex queries by age, location, cost and specialty over summer camps. This functionality is not possible with general, Web-wide search engines. Unfortunately these portals are dicult and time-consuming to maintain. This paper advocates the use of machine learning techniques to greatly automate the creation and maintenance of domain-specic Internet portals.

As a long-standing advocate for understanding issues of cultural and ethnic diversity, I have served as President of APA Division 45, Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues, and currently chair the American Psychological Association’s Commission for the Recruitment, Retention and Training of Ethnic Minorities implementation task force (CEMRRAT2). Both of these organizations were instrumental in the approval of the APA Multicultural Guidelines for Practice and the promotion of empirical research addressing mental health issues of ethnic minority clinical populations.

Imagine a world in which the laws and policies of every country allowed women to fully enjoy their reproductive rights. While this is still a distant goal, a confluence of factors has enabled women’s health and rights advocates to bring it into focus. The 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women (FWCW) were groundbreaking for so many reasons, among them that governments agreed that everyone has reproductive rights, and that they are an inalienable part of established international human rights.

The rate of technological progress is encouraging increasingly sophisticated lines of enquiry in cognitive neuroscience and shows no sign of slowing down in the foreseeable future.
