  • This paper presents the time history response of a sandwich beam with a porous core subjected to two moving harmonic loads with opposite directions. In the modelling, the beam is combined of two isotropic face sheets and a porous core with symmetric porosity distribution. The quasi-3D shear deformation beam theory in conjunction with Hamilton’s variational principle is utilized to set up the governing equations of motion. The Navier solution is used to obtain the displacement field.

  • The application of brushwood fences along the Mekong deltaic coast has recently played a significant role in wave damping and promoting sedimentation. The results show a good agreement of wave heights and wave spectrum between the physical, vegetation and porosity models. Furthermore, the computational and physical model errors, such as BIAS and SI values, are less than 1 mm and 10%, respectively.

  • In this study, we develop a model for permeability for porous media using an upscaling technique. For this, we conceptualize a porous medium as a bundle of capillary tubes with the similarly skewed pore size distribution. The proposed model is related to microstructural properties such as maximum radius, porosity, tortuosity and a characteristic constant of porous media.

  • The observations for the binder-jetted material therefore stand in stark contrast to those for SLM-made stainless steel which can provide an even higher yield strength than the wrought material. From a mechanism point of view, the low mechanical properties of the binder-jetted material may be explained by the high initial porosity which is reminiscent of cast metals.

  • In this paper, effect of porosity on nonlinear analysis of plate structures is presented. Two porous distributions are considered. Governing equations are expressed by using isogeometric analysis (IGA) and the third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT). With these approaches, it is easy to fulfil the C1-continuity requirement of the plate model.

  • The study was conducted to investigate some physical properties of soybean at various moisture levels. The dependence of physical properties of soybean on moisture content was determined. In the moisture range from 9.98- 27.10% (wb). The soaked soybean size increased linearly in length (6.34 - 8.95 mm), width (5.42 -6.50 mm), and thickness (4.23 - 5.35 mm) according to final moisture content. In this study, length, width and thickness models based on moisture content are defined as linear models and the regression coefficients (R2 ) related to these models are found between 0.84, 0.72 and 0.

  • The purpose of reservoir characterisation is to fi gure out the spatial distribution of petrophysical properties such as porosity, permeability and water saturation that are key parameters for construction of the geological model. Characterisation of a carbonate reservoir is often diffi cult mainly due to the complexity of its pore system. This study presents an integrated approach to using well log and micro-geological data to characterise rock fabrics and their pore system for a carbonate reservoir in the HR structure.

  • In this model, the fission gas atoms are treated as the special precipitates in the irradiated UO2 fuel matrix. The calculated results indicate that the significant pore coarsening and mean pore density decrease in the HBS occur upon surpassing a local burn-up of 100 GWd/tM. The capability of this model is successfully validated against irradiation experiments of UO2 fuel, in which the average pore radius, pore density, and porosity are directly measured as functions of local burn-up.
