Salinity is one of the most devastating abiotic stresses limiting crop production. Considering this issue, a pot experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the boro season (2017-2018) using two rice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties, namely BRRI dhan28 (salt sensitive) and BRRI dhan47 (salt tolerant), to assess the effects of varied salinity levels on the growth and the performance of the rice varieties under salt stress conditions.

The synthesized complexes have also been explored for forensic applications as fingerprint developing dyes. Apart from the excellent photoluminescent properties and forensic applications of the synthesized compounds, the scope of the work includes mild reaction conditions and better yield with easy of one pot synthesis by using readily available salicylaldehydes/2-hydroxy-1-napthaldehyde, cylohexyl-1,2-diamine and zinc acetate.

This study investigated the effect of foliar application of putrescine on growth, biochemical, essential oil percent and morpho-anatomical characteristics of Thymus vulgaris L. under water deficit conditions. In pot experiments, plants were grown under two different irrigation levels 70–80% and 30–40% of water holding capacity and foliar sprayed with putrescine at 0, 0.1 and 0.2 mM twice at 10 and 50 days after transplanting.

One-pot syntheses of the value-added heterocyclic compounds 3-methylpyridine and pyridine using a renewable chemical, glycerol, were achieved in acidic medium by thermal conversion reactions. Condensation/cyclization reactions of the thermal degradation products of glycerol were investigated in situ using different ammonia and acidic moiety producing inorganic ammonium salts under pyrolysis or microwave heating conditions.

A facile one-pot synthesis of novel oxindole derivatives bearing benzothiazolylmethyl-2-thioxothiazolidin-4- one was accomplished via one-pot reaction of 5-oxoindolinylidene rhodanine-3-acetic acid derivatives, 2-aminothiophenol, and triphenyl phosphite in the presence of tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) and nano silica-bonded 5-n-propyloctahydro-pyrimido[1,2-a]azepinium chloride (NSB-DBU) as heterogeneous reusable nanocatalyst. The target compounds were obtained in excellent yields (85%–92%) and short reaction times under fairly mild reaction conditions.

We investigated the effects of different placement methods of applying slow-release fertilizer on the growth and foliar nutrients of three contrasting tree species (i.e., fast-growing Betula platyphylla and Larix kaempferi and slow-growing Chamaecyparis obtusa) to provide implications for increasing their growth and survival in marginal forest lands. We applied 84 g pot–1 of solid compound fertilizer (SCF) at different positions: no fertilization (CON), subsurface placement (SCFs ), and bottom placement [35-cm depth (SCFb )] in a greenhouse condition.

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of different doses of melatonin (MEL) applications (0, 5, 10 µM) on certain biochemical characteristics of strawberry seedlings grown in calcareous stress conditions. The experiment was conducted in the pots filled with lime-added mixture at the rate of 1% and peat perlite at the rate of 1:1 with frigo seedlings belonging to “Albion” strawberry cultivar.

Nickel ferrite magnetic nanoparticles (NiFe2O4MNPs) were prepared via the autocombustion assisted solgel method. The efficient catalyst was investigated by FT-IR, XRD, ICP, SEM, and TEM techniques. A one-pot, three-component reaction is reported for the synthesis of substituted 4H -chromenes in the presence of NiFe2O4 MNPs as a reusable catalyst in a green solvent at 40◦C under clean, efficient, and mild conditions. Furthermore, selected products were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. The single-crystal X-ray analysis of product 4u was also conclusively confirmed.

In this study, encapsulation processes of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) or sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) monomers into the cavity of β -cyclodextrin (β -CD) were applied to synthesize mono- and bis (indolyl)methylmalononitrile derivatives by a one-pot three-component reaction of an aldehyde, malononitrile, and indole in an aqueous solution. These two inclusion complexes proved to be superior to CTAB or SDS individually, as cationic or anionic surfactants, respectively, for accessing high yields of pure products within shorter reaction times.

A facile synthesis of piperidinium 3,3’-(arylmethylene) bis (2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione) analogs as organic salts is described by the one-pot pseudo-four-component reaction between 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone, aromatic aldehydes, and piperidine. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of these systems confirms that the stabilized predominant interactions are N-H...O and O-H...O hydrogen bonds.

Microwave irradiation has been used to improve the one-pot synthesis of substituted 2-amino-4,6-diarylnicotinonitrile in the presence of boric acid as an efficient and green catalyst under solvent-free conditions within 48–60s. All the analogs that have not been reported previously were characterized by their melting points, IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectra. One of the structures was verified by the analysis of a single crystal. The reported synthetic procedure provided remarkable advantages such as short reaction times, excellent yield, facile workup, and the use of a green catalyst.

A series of novel imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine containing tri/tetrasubstituted imidazole derivatives (1-10) has been synthesized via sequential two-step, one-pot, multicomponent reaction using imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine-2-carbaldehyde, benzil, primary amines, and ammonium acetate catalyzed by p-toluenesulfonic acid under microwave-assisted conditions. The results showed that target compounds can be obtained from a wide range of primary amines bearing different functional groups with moderate to good yields (46%-80%) under optimum reaction conditions.

In this study, nine different C-2 aroyl imidazole derivatives were synthesized in a one pot reaction with two steps, and the reduction reactions of these derivatives with NaBH4 were carried out under mild conditions. Substitution reaction of obtained imidazo methanol derivatives with chloroacetylchloride reagent and ring reaction of substitution products were investigated. It was determined that 1,4-imidazoxazinone derivative was obtained as a result of the cyclization reaction.
