After nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, sulphur is the fourth nutrient, whose deficiency is widespread in India. Sulphur deficiency is observed primarily due to high crop yield and therefore higher rate of sulphur removal by crops, and lesser use of sulphur-containing fertilizers. Boron foliar sprays seemed to overcome the deleterious effects of drought by overcoming the drought-related molecular responses and consequently appeared to meliorate sunflower growth under insufficient water conditions.

Nine typical pedons from Langate Block of Kupwara district during 2017 were selected and surveyed for the purpose of collection of soil samples. The soil samples processed and analyzed for different nutrients. Available Micro and Macro nutrients were determined using standard techniques. The overall results showed that the soils are near slightly acidic to moderate alkaline in reaction, low to medium in organic carbon. In general the soils The available nutrients Nitrogen and Potassium were low to medium with the mean values of 287.99 and 149.

A field experiment was conducted during 2013-14 rabi season, at the Instructional Farm, College of Agriculture, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh to asses response of popcorn (Zea mays L. everta Sturt) to four levels each of potassium viz., 0, 30, 60 and 90 kg K2O ha-1 and sulphur viz., 0, 20, 40, 60 kg S ha-1 . The results of different potassium and sulphur levels depicted that application of potassium @ 60 kg K2O ha-1 as well as sulphur @ 40 kg S ha-1 significantly increased the plant height, stem thickness, number of leaves per plant and crude protein content in seed.

An investigation was carried out to study the distribution of available macronutrients (N, P, K and S) and their relationship with some physico-chemical properties of soil of different blocks of district Udham Singh Nagar (Uttarakhand). The soils of the district were found sufficient in Phosphorus, Potassium and Sulphur but low in available Nitrogen content. In general the macronutrients were correlated significantly and negatively with pH and positively with organic carbon of the soil.

Value added dried pumpkin cubes and slices were prepared using ripe pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duch ex Poir). Prior to drying of pumpkin cubes and slices, different pretreatments (blanching, potassium metabisulphite (KMS) treatment, sulphur fumigation) were standardized and among them treatment involving steam blanching for 4 min + 1500 ppm KMS dip for 30 min was observed to be the best, retaining maximum nutritional characteristics and sensory scores.

Linseed and mustard are the most important prehistoric crops in the world, usually cultivated as major rabi oilseeds in India. The major constraints for low productivity are inadequate supply of nutrients and poor production practices. Technological demonstrations on linseed and mustard were conducted at 58 locations covering 24.4 ha area in participatory mode using improved linseed cultivar JLS 9, JLS 23 and mustard (pusa mahak) during 2007-08 to 2011-12.

Study was conducted to evaluate soil fertility status in the four different tasar growing regions in Banka District of Bihar and Dumka District of Jharkhand. A total of 75 surface soil samples (0-30 cm) were collected from the fields of primary tasar food plants (Terminalia arjuna and T. tomentosa) along with the details regarding farmer’s name, land type, fertilizer details, geo location, etc. The collected samples were air dried, sieved and analyzed for various soil fertility parameters such as pH, EC, organic carbon, macro and micro nutrients etc.

A field experiment was conducted at Agronomy farm, S.K.N. College of Agriculture, Jobner (Rajasthan) during kharif 2014 on loamy sand soil. The experiment consisted of 16 treatment combinations of four levels each of potassium (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg ha-1 ) and sulphur (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha-1 ). The results showed that progressive increase in level of potassium up to 50 kg K2O ha-1 and sulphur 40 kg S ha-1 significantly increased the quality of sesame.

The present investigation entitled “Fertility status of irrigated soils of Jhotwara panchayat samiti of Jaipur district “was carried out during 2010-11. The soils were pH neutral to alkaline (pH 7.2–8.5) in reaction having electrical conductivity (EC) value in surface soil (0.53–2.51 dSm-1 ). The data on nutrient showed that the soils are low in organic carbon and available nitrogen and low to medium in available phosphorus and available sulphur whereas, medium to high in available potassium.

Soil quality is one of the important factors controlling yields of the crops. Soil characterization in relation to evaluation of fertility status of the soils of an area or region is an important aspect in the context of sustainable agricultural production. Soil physicochemical parameters are more important that control its quality. Variation in nutrient supply is a natural phenomenon and some of them may be sufficient whereas others deficient.

Among the crop residues used for preparation of compost, wheat straw (WS) + urea (1.5 - 4.5 per cent) + rock phosphate (RP) (6 - 12 per cent) + Sulphur (S) (1 to 3% through gypsum) and shredded cotton stalk (SCS) + urea (1.5 - 4.5%) + RP (6 – 12%) + S (1 to 3% through gypsum) were found equally beneficial in improving the quality of compost. The pH of compost rises initially and further drop at the maturity of compost.
