Thifluzamide is a thiazole carboxanilide fungicide used to control a wide range of basidiomycete diseases on maize, potatoes, rice, and other crops. Although this fungicide is found in aquatic environments, there is no information about its acute and chronic toxicity on aquatic invertebrates. In the present study, to investigate acute and chronic toxicity of thifluzamide, daphnids were exposed to 1.25, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 mg/L thifluzamide for 48 h and 21 days, respectively.

Induction of acquired resistance activates defense-related genes. Current study aimed to (a) initiate potato acquired resistance to the Early Blight disease caused by Alternaria solani through treating potato plants with low and repetitive doses of 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D), abscisic acid (AB)

Potato dry rot disease (Fusarium spp.) is one of the most important fungal storage rots on potato tubers after harvesting. The aims of this study were to identify the Fusarium species that cause dry rot in potato storages, evaluate the most virulent Fusarium species in vitro and in vivo for fungicide sensitivity and determine the susceptibility of the cultivars. In this context, as a result of surveys carried out in potato storages of Ödemiş and Torbalı counties in İzmir province in 2015–2016; Fusarium species obtained from diseased potato tubers were identified as Fusarium sambucinum, F.

Transcriptomic analyses were performed to compare the molecular responses of two potato varieties previously shown to differ in the severity of disease symptoms due to infection by “Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum” (Lso), the causative agent of Zebra Chip in potato. A factorial design utilizing the two varieties and psyllids either harboring Lso or without bacteria was used to discriminate varietal responses to pathogen infection versus psyllid feeding. Plant response was determined from leaf samples 3 weeks after infection.

Phytophthora infestans is responsible for late blight, one of the most important potato diseases. Phenazine-1-carboxylic acid (PCA)-producing Pseudomonas fluorescens strain LBUM223 isolated in our laboratory shows biocontrol potential against various plant pathogens. To characterize the effect of LBUM223 on the transcriptome of P. infestans, we conducted an in vitro time-course study. Confrontational assay was performed using P. infestans inoculated alone (control) or with LBUM223, its phzC- isogenic mutant (not producing PCA), or exogenically applied PCA.

Pectobacterium parmentieri is a newly established species within the plant pathogenic family Pectobacteriaceae. Bacteria belonging to this species are causative agents of diseases in economically important crops (e.g. potato) in a wide range of different environmental conditions, encountered in Europe, North America, Africa, and New Zealand. Severe disease symptoms result from the activity of P. parmentieri virulence factors, such as plant cell wall degrading enzymes.

A genome-scale metabolic model of potato late blight suggests a photosynthesis suppression mechanism
Phytophthora infestans is a plant pathogen that causes an important plant disease known as late blight in potato plants (Solanum tuberosum) and several other solanaceous hosts. This disease is the main factor affecting potato crop production worldwide. In spite of the importance of the disease, the molecular mechanisms underlying the compatibility between the pathogen and its hosts are still unknown.

Bacterial plant pathogens of the Pectobacterium genus are responsible for a wide spectrum of diseases in plants, including important crops such as potato, tomato, lettuce, and banana. Investigation of the genetic diversity underlying virulence and host specificity can be performed at genome level by using a comprehensive comparative approach called pangenomics.

The Plutella xylostella PxSDF2L1 gene was previously reported to enhance insect resistance to pathogen at high basal transcription rate. PxSDF2L1 shows similitude with the stromal cell-derived factor 2 (SDF2), an ER stress-induced chaperon protein that is highly conserved throughout animals and plants.

The present study was carried out to recognize the effect of garlic different concentrations on control against Alternaria and Fusarium spp. under in-vitro condition. Per cent growth inhibitions were recorded and it was ranged from 64.90 to 90.12% and 60.91 to 92.40% for Alternaria and Fusarium spp. respectively. Garlic concentration 20%show best results with 90.12% and 92.40% inhibition of both the pathogen.

Common scab caused by Streptomyces scabies (Thaxter) Waksman & Henrici is an important disease worldwide, and can cause significant reduction in the economic value of potato. The management of the disease can be done through conventional methods, biological chemical and cultivation of resistant variety. However, resistance against pathogen is not a permanent solution and fungicidal is not ecofriendly and economical. But new search, induce resistance has taken great attention for plant disease management in near future.

Hence, scheduling timely application of fungicides based on the spore concentrations in plant canopy by obtaining reliable predictive models that allow us to know beforehand the atmosphere spore content in a particular area and the suitable meteorological conditions for occurrence of aerial sporangia, can lead to forecasting the emergence of fungal blight. These allows the utilization of forecasting tools for deliberating the need based and timely application of fungicides and to reduce the cost of cultivation.

Black scurf disease on potato is causing an economically losses to the potato crops which causes both quantitative and qualitative damage occurs in potato production areas all over the world. The fungus limits the growth by forming cankers on sprouts, underground stems, and stolons, and makes tubers ugly by forming black scurf (sclerotia) on tuber surfaces.

Seed-borne diseases are a major problem in Kenya since many farmers have no access to certified seeds. The objective of the study was to study the influence of potato seed production systems on potato seed borne diseases. A survey was carried out in five major potato growing counties in various agro-ecological zones (AEZs).
