Emergency rescue lung resection is rarely performed to treat congenital lung cysts (CLCs) in neonates. Many reports have described fetal CLC treatment; however, prenatal predictors for postnatal respiratory failure have not been characterized.

The present study was conducted to investigate various micrometric parameters of bronchiole and bronchi in prenatal Gaddi sheep lung. A total of n=18 Gaddi sheep fetuses were collected from various slaughter houses in and around Palampur town for one year. The prenatal lung samples were divided into three groups which included group-I (0-50 days of gestation), group-II (50-100 days of gestation) and group-III (100-150 days of gestation) based on their age in days. The overall diameter of bronchiole increased from group-I to group-III.

MRI has been increasingly used for detailed visualization of the fetus in utero as well as pregnancy structures. Yet, the familiarity of radiologists and clinicians with fetal MRI is still limited. This article provides a practical approach to fetal MR imaging. Fetal MRI is an interactive scanning of the moving fetus owed to the use of fast sequences. Single-shot fast spin-echo (SSFSE) T2-weighted imaging is a standard sequence. T1-weighted sequences are primarily used to demonstrate fat, calcification and hemorrhage.

Exposure to tobacco smoke both prenatally and after birth is associated with measurable harmful effects including a greater risk of developing asthma-like symptoms in early childhood. However, evidence of increased risk of allergic diseases is uncertain77, 78. Distinguishing the independent contributions of prenatal and postnatal maternal smoking is problematic79. However, studies of lung function immediately after birth have shown that maternal smoking during pregnancy has an influence on lung development37.
