More and more studies have demonstrated that potassium channel tetramerization domain-containing 5 (KCTD5) plays an important role in the development of cancer, but there is a lack of comprehensive research on the biological function of this protein in pan-cancer.

Apoptosis or programmed cell death plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis and, therefore, is a tightly regulated process. Deregulation of apoptosis signalling can favour carcinogenesis. Apoptosis inhibitor 5 (Api5), an inhibitor of apoptosis, is upregulated in cancers. Interestingly, Api5 is shown to regulate both apoptosis and cell proliferation.

Programmed cell death 5 (PDCD5) was first identified as an apoptosis-promoting protein and involved in some autoimmune diseases and inflammatory processes. Our previous study demonstrated greater expression of serum PDCD5 in asthmatic patients than controls.
