Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) causes severe bacterial leaf blight (BLB) disease to many Vietnamese major rice cultivars, including the TBR225. OsSWEET13 belongs to group III of the OsSWEET gene family encoding sugar transport proteins, which is considered one of the “susceptibility” genes (S genes) necessary for BLB disease.

The results show high conserve in mature osa-miR164 sequences but not in the precursor sequences, different expression patterns of osa-miR164 gene members under stress conditions and various cis-regulatory elements present in osa-miR164 gene promoters, which might explain the diverse expression patterns of osa-miR164 genes. Some potential target genes of osa-miR164 were identified and their expressions under different stress conditions were analyzed.

In this study, we analyzed the reasons that could explain the unusual proliferation of PPN and its observed impacts on rice in Hai Duong Province, Vietnam. Three main hypotheses were tested: (i) A pest (nematode) highly aggressive to rice was emerging, (ii) Farmers used rice genotypes highly susceptible to nematode infections, and (iii) Modification of the farmer practices lead to the proliferation of the pest.

Polyploidy, or whole-genome duplication (WGD) promotes genetic diversification in plants. However, whether WGD is accompanied by epigenetic regulation especially DNA methylation remains yet elusive. Methylation of different region in genomic DNA play discrete role in gene regulation and developmental processes in plants.

Rice is one of the important cereal crops and more than half of the world population is dependent on Rice as staple food. Rice cultivation is affected by various abiotic stresses like drought, salinity, cold etc. Universal Stress Proteins (USPs) are conserved proteins found across the plant, animals, fungi and bacteria. USPs are reported to be involved in various abiotic stress responses. In this study we have identified 43 USP genes in rice, distributed across the chromosome.

DRE (dehydration responsive element)/CRT (C-repeat) is a cis-acting element that involves in gene expression responsive to abiotic stress in higher plants. To date, all well known DREBP transcription factors in Arabidopsis, rice, maize and other plants regulate gene expression in response to drought, high-salt and cold stresses by binding specifically to DRE/CRT.

Using cDNA subtraction technique, 18 cold stress responsive-genes were identified, among them a novel gene, ZmCOI6.1, whose function is still unknown. Analysis of the ZmCOI6.1 promoter sequence revealed several conserved stress-responsive cis-acting elements. Further expression characterization shows that ZmCOI6.1 is induced, in addition by cold, by other abiotic stresses such as drought and NaCl as well as by signalling molecules such as ABA and SA. The results indicate that ZmCOI6.1 is a general stress responsive gene. A possible regulation mechanism is presented where ZmCOI6.

A putative transcription factor, named RAMY, that binds to the 20-bp O2S sequences of the regulatory region of the Amy2genepromoter has been identifiedusing the yeast one-hybrid system from a rice library. The full lengthRAMY cDNA clone encodes a 218-amino acid protein and is homologous to the late embryogenesis-abundant protein (LEA5). In vitromutagenesis and electrophoretic mobility shift assays confirmed that RAMY can bind with O2S spe-cifically throughanunusual zincfingerwithaCXCX4CX2H consensus sequence. ...

Binding of heat shock factors (Hsfs) to heat shock elements (HSEs) leads to transcriptional regulation of heat shock genes. Genome-wide, 953 rice genes contain perfect-type, 695 genes gap-type and 1584 genes step-type HSE sequences in their 1-kb promoter region.
