Anastrepha ludens is among the pests that have a major impact on México’s economy because it attacks fruits as citrus and mangoes. The Mexican Federal government uses integrated pest management to control A. ludens through the Programa Nacional Moscas de la Fruta [National Fruit Fly Program, SAGARPASENASICA].

A genetic sexing strain (GSS) is an essential component for pest control using the sterile insect technique (SIT). A GSS is developed using a combination of Y-autosome translocation and a selectable marker such as pupal color, resulting in heterozygous males and homozygous females that possess wild-type brown pupae (wp+ ) and mutant white pupae (wp) alleles, respectively.

Various studies have shown that the insulin-like peptides present in insects and investigation of their possible effects on insect physiology have significance for clarifying the evolutionary developmental period of insulin. The insect fat body is an organ analog to vertebrate adipose tissue and liver. In insects which do not have feeding activity during pupal and adult stages such as Bombyx mori, substances and energy required for continuation of life and development of tissues and organs are provided by the fat body via the autophagy process.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of four different chilling periods, varying from 24 to 120 h, on the mean survival rate, larval and pupal development durations and the pupal and adult weight of Calliphora vicina (Robineau-Desvoidy) (Diptera: Calliphoridae) under laboratory conditions at 4 ºC in 2018 at Ondokuz Mayıs University. Chilling reduced the survival rate of the pupae of all developmental stages.

In this study, the pupal development process of the Calliphora vomitoria (L. 1758), widely used in the estimation of postmortem time in forensic entomology, was examined. In the last decade, studies of the development periods in the pupal stage and the development times of these periods have increased around the world and specifically in Turkey. In this study, the aim was to detect the pupal development periods of the Calliphora vomitoria via a process of hourly pupal dissection, a process that would be the only one of its kind in the literature for this species.

Aedes aegypti mosquito, the principal global vector of arboviral diseases, lays eggs and undergoes larval and pupal development to become adult mosquitoes in fresh water (FW). It has recently been observed to develop in coastal brackish water (BW) habitats of up to 50% sea water, and such salinity tolerance shown to be an inheritable trait.

Butterfly wing color patterns emerge as the result of a regular arrangement of scales produced by epithelial scale cells at the pupal stage. These color patterns and scale arrangements are coordinated throughout the wing. However, the mechanism by which the development of scale cells is controlled across the entire wing remains elusive.

Aiming at verifying the effect of host on the development, the biology of Rhyzopertha Dominica (Fab.) was studied on paddy variety, Sumati, Maize Hybrid DHM-111 and sorghum variety M 35-1 during 2009-10 in the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. The biological parameters assessed were egg duration, egg hatching percentage, total larval and pupal period, total development period, fecundity, male and female longevity, sex ratio, pre-oviposition, oviposition and post oviposition period.

The effects of temperature on the development and the predatory capacity of Micraspis discolor larvae were studied in laboratory. Two temperature levels 23.50°C and 30.71oC on average, were used to assess the life cycle and developmental stages of the ladybird beetle M. discolor. The life cycle of M. discolor was 27.38 days at 23.50°C and reduced to 19.77 days at 30.71°C, the total larval period was 13.42 and 9.9 days, respectively. The pre-oviposition period of the ladybird beetle M. discolor was 4.95 days at 23.50°C and 5.23 days at 30.71°C.
