The purpose of this study is to detail the prevalence of MRSA isolated from clinical specimens and the know the clinical spectrum of infectious syndromes associated with them, which ranges from a soft tissue infection to severe, overwhelming blood stream infection and also highlight the antibiotic sensitivity pattern.

Among the other 12 inpatient MRSA isolates which had the pvl gene, nine were sensitive to most of the non- beta lactam antibiotics, whereas remaining three were resistant to most of the antibiotics except vancomycin and linezolid. The presence of pvl gene can no longer be used to discriminate between CA-MRSA and HA-MRSA.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence of Panton Valentine Leukocidin (pvl) in methicillin resistant S. aureus isolated from Chicken meat marketed in retail outlets in Chennai city, Tamil Nadu. A total of 120 meat samples were collected from different retail outlets and it was observed that 66.67 (80/120) per cent of the samples were positive for the presence of S. aureus.

This study was conducted on one hundred and fifty clinical isolates of S. aureus isolates forming three groups (group one fifty community acquired isolates from adult infections, group two: fifty community acquired isolates from pediatric infections and group three:fifty hospital acquired isolates as a control group) isolated from different clinical specimens. All isolates were identified by conventional methods such as morphological identification, gram stain, and catalase test. Staphylococcus spp is a major cause of nosocomial and community-acquired infections and represents a significant burden on the healthcare system. Establishment of a mature biofilm, play an important role in the persistence of chronic infections and also decreases the susceptibility to antimicrobials and immune defenses, making these infections difficult to eradicate. MRSA and MR-CONS has become a major public health problem in both hospitals and communities. PVL has been reported to be an important marker for the highly pathogenic community acquired S. aureus infections.
