The present investigation was carried out in two different seasons with aim to assess the heterobeltosis and standard heterosis in bottle gourd. The present study was comprised of 45 crosses developed through diallel mating design using 10 parents namely, NDBG-49-2 (P1), N. Rashmi (P2), N. Prabha (P3), N. Pooja (P4), Pusa Naveen (P5), Pb. Komal (P6), NDBG S-1 (P7), PBOG-3 (P8), NDBG-11 (P9) and Faizabadi Local (P10) at MES, Vegetable Science, NDUA&T, Kumarganj, Faizabad (U.P.) India during kharif 2015 (E1), and Rabi, 2015-16 (E2).

The present investigation was carried out at the Experimental Field, Division of Vegetable Science, SKUAST-K, Shalimar during Kharief 2018. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Thirty genotypes were evaluated for various quantitative and quality traits. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among genotypes for all the traits.

Bottlegourd is prone to various fungal, bacterial and viral diseases. Among various fungal diseases, anthracnose, downy mildew and cercospora leaf spot are prevalent in different bottlegourd growing areas. Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum lagenarium (Pass) Ellis. and Halsted is of major economic importance. The pathogen is seed borne in nature but initiation as well as spread of disease largely depends upon the environmental factors. This disease is widespread under both greenhouse and field cultivation resulting in poor fruit quality and yield.

Bottle gourd halwa is a popular khoa based traditional dairy delicacy. It is produced on small scale by local sweetmeat makers. In order to commercially manufacture and market bottle gourd halwa, studies on its shelf-life were considered to be very important. Bottle gourd halwa samples prepared using skim milk powder and khoa as base material were packed in polystyrene packaging material and stored at two different temperature i.e. 7±2 °C and 30±2 °C.

The research work entitled “Utilization of bottle gourd pulp (Lagenaria siceraria) for the preparation of Ujani basundi” was carried out during the year 2018-19. Milk was standardized to 4 per cent fat and the Ujani basundi prepared with addition of bottle gourd pulp at 0% (T1), 5% (T2), 10% (T3) and 15% (T4) per cent by weight of milk. The data analyzed statistically by using completely randomized design (CRD), with four treatments and five replications. The data obtained after chemical analysis of fat, total solids, protein, acidity, solids not fat and ash.
