The present investigation was conducted in Jaipur district of Rajasthan with aimed to “identify major constraints faced by farmers in different farming systems”. The study revealed that four farming systems were existed in both rainfed and irrigated situations of Jaipur district viz: FS-I: Crop + Dairy (C+D), FS-II: Crop + Dairy + Vegetable (C+D+V), FS-III: Crop + Dairy + Goat (C+D+G) and FS-IV Crop + Poultry (C+P). The major constraints reported by household in rainfed situation for crops and dairy enterprises were inadequate irrigation facilities (61.

A long term field experiment was conducted since kharif 2015 for evaluating the effect of inorganic and organic sources of nutrients on soil physical properties and productivity on direct seeded rice ( Oryza satia L.) – MTU1010 under rainfed midland situation at Bastar plateau zone at S. G. College of Agriculture and Research Station, Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. Random block design was used with twelve treatments and four replications to carry out experiment. The full recommended dose of fertilizer for rice crop was 100kg ha-1 Nitrogen, 60 kg ha-1 phosphorus and 40 kg ha-1.

Cereals and legumes are largely grown under harsh rainfed conditions in India, which is further complicated by climate change and climate variability. Tropical drylands are experiencing deficit rainfall over the years. Due to this, agricultural production is affected in arid and semi arid regions. There is an urgent need to find low cost, ecofriendly, sustainable solutions to manage crop productivity under rainfed situations to help resource poor small and marginal farmers in particular. Plant microbiome interactions offer plants to tide over adverse conditions viz.

Water stress periods are common in rainfed agriculture therefore the activities aimed at conserving the rainwater should be adopted for improving the productivity of dryland crops. The major crops in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra are cotton, soybean and sorghum. It was observed that the drought situation may arise during crop growth period which may result in partial failure of crops. It was therefore felt worthwhile to adopt the proper methods of in-situ moisture conservation so as to partially meet out the adverse effect of water stress in standing crop.

KVK, Chandgothi, Churu (Rajasthan) conducted total 50 Front Line Demonstrations on cowpea at farmers field in Churu District (Rajasthan) during two consecutive kharif seasons from 2014 to 2015. The farming situation was rainfed and soil was sandy loam low in nitrogen, medium in phosphorus and medium to high in potash. Assessment of gap was done and on the basis of gap assessment, improved recommended technologies were demonstrated.

Globally maize is the third most important crop in the world. The main maize crop is generally grown as rainfed and on marginal lands particularly in hilly terrains of the Kashmir valley. It is situated at longitude and latitude of 73.0-76.2E and 32.50-36.0N respectively. By 2050 demand for maize will double in the developing world, and maize is predicted to become the crop with the greatest production globally, and in the developing world by 2025 (Rosegrant et al., 2008).

Groundnut is the mostly grown commercial oilseed for millions of small scale farmers in the semi-arid topics and under rainfed conditions in Andhra Pradesh. The productivity of groundnut grown under rainfed situation is declining from the actual production of 1.23 m t to the lowest yield of 0.8t ha-1 in India, under the crop area coverage of 1.38 m ha.

Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), the crop of present era being versatile in nature, is grown worldwide under various agro climatic situations. It flourishes well under limited resources of irrigation and fertilizer. Barley thrives better yield in problematic situation and climatic change, like rainfed, diaraland, marginal area of river & saline and alkaline soil. The nutritional and medicinal importance of this crop is of permanent value. The second most important use of barley is for malt, which is used mostly in beer, but also in hard liquors, malted milk and flavorings in a variety of foods.

Livestock is an integral component of rainfed farming system. Livestock rearing is also integrated with crop farming to provide security against crop failure due to uncertain monsoon conditions. Estimates reveal that livestock contribute 40 % of total annual income of a farmer. In this situation, feeding livestock is need based in rainfed farming situation. Major constrains that prevail in livestock rearing is deficit of availability of green fodder throughout the year and lack of awareness about high yielding improved fodder varieties.

Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important oil seed crop mainly grown under rainfed situation. Due to erratic rainfall and frequent drought during the crop growth period, groundnut yields are generally low and unstable under rainfed conditions. Drought during critical crop growth stages is crucial for yield in groundnut varieties. But tolerant genotypes may give better yield due to maintenance of physiological responses that were triggered during drought.

Maize is the most important world‟s leading cereals crop which can be grown in diverse seasons, ecological and uses and known as queen of cereal due to unparallel productivity among cereal crops. Front line demonstrations (FLDs) on maize were laid down at 180 farmers‟ fields to demonstrate production potential and economic benefits of improved production technologies comprising high yielding varieties namely PEHM-2, PM-3, PM-5, PSM 2 and PM 4 in Pali district of arid zone of Rajasthan state during Kharif seasons from 2011 to 2017 in rainfed farming situation.
