Cinnamomum balansae is an endemic, rare species of tree in Vietnam, was rated level EN by IUCN, VU by the Vietnam Red Book – 2007 and classified as group IIA by Decree 32/2006/NĐ-CP. Besides its natural regeneration capacity is very limited so conservation and development for this species are facing a big challenge of seedling shortages.

The species of this family are facing tremendous pressure due to habitat degradation, overexploitation and changing environmental conditions. Therefore, while exploring the floristic diversity of NUPA, attempts were made to explore the orchid diversity, distribution patterns, nativity, endemism, threat categories, and local uses.

Bacteremia caused by Serratia rubidaea is seldom mentioned in comparison with other Enterobacteriaceae species. It primarily affects immunocompromised patients undergoing invasive procedures. Furthermore, the incidence, clinical features, and microbiological profile of this pathogen in the intensive care unit are rarely described.

Ebook "Relict species: Phylogeography and conservation biology" focus on Relict Species. As species become rare through natural processes, they are reduced to few populations in few locations and are considered as threatened or endangered. Numerous species are now placed in this dangerous situation because of Man’s expansion.

The diversity and ecology of spiders were studied in the Ngoc Thanh buffer zone of Tam Dao National Park, the Cuc Phuong buffer zone of Cuc Phuong National Park, and the Ba Trai buffer zone of Ba Vi National Park. Spiders were collected by five methods: pitfall traps, litter sampling, tree beating, sweep netting, and visual searches in four types of habitats including secondary forests, artificial forests, shrublands, and home gardens.

Glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) is called the house keeping enzyme essential for all cells survival. G6PD deficiency is best studied for its role in hemolysis as this enzyme is the only source of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) in red blood cells (RBCs) and is the cells defense against reactive oxygen species. We present one of the rare complications of G6PD deficiency in this case where all other causes of priapism were ruled out.

This paper presents a deep learning model to address the problem of recognition of animals and plants. The context of this work is to make an effort in protection of rare species that are seriously faced to the risk of extinction in Vietnam such as Panthera pardus, Dalbergia cochinchinensis, Macaca mulatta.

The diagnosis of tularemia is not often considered in Germany as the disease is still rare in this country. Nonetheless, Francisella tularensis, the causative agent of tularemia, can infect numerous animal species and should, therefore, not be neglected as a dangerous pathogen.

Heat shock proteins 90 (HSP90s) are a highly conserved protein family of cellular chaperones widely found in plants; they play a fundamental role in response to biotic and abiotic stresses. The genome-wide analysis of HSP90 gene family has been completed for some species; however, it has been rarely reported for the tobacco HSP90 genes.

A group of animals that cannot interbreed with animals from another group is often taken as the definition of a ‘true’ species. However, a suite of recent studies suggests that the rare event of hybridization, that is, the production of viable offspring by the interbreeding of individuals from two such species, can facilitate adaptation through the process of genome ‘introgression’.

Structural variants (SVs) significantly drive genome diversity and environmental adaptation for diverse species. Unlike the prevalent small SVs (< kilobase-scale) in higher eukaryotes, large-size SVs rarely exist in the genome, but they function as one of the key evolutionary forces for speciation and adaptation.

The grey dwarf hamster, Cricetulus migratorius, is the smallest hamster species in Europe, with a highly fragmented distribution in most countries in the south-eastern part of the continent. It is rarely observed, with most records provided by raptor diet studies. Here we report a new observation from extreme north-eastern Romania, based on individuals identified in the diet of owls. The records considerably extend the known geographical range to the north in Romania and these are the first observations from an urban area in the country.

Spilomyia manicata (Rondani, 1865) is reported as a new genus and species record from India and the Oriental region. A brief diagnosis, images, and comparison with allied species are provided to scientifically validate this new faunal record from the Indian subcontinent and to facilitate its prompt identification. The species shows rare distribution across its range, and various factors pose a threat to the existence of this large pollinator species. Therefore, the documentation of this species assumes significance for devising conservation strategies and sustainable management.
