Socio-economic status of fishers of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra

Socio-economic condition of the fishers in Maharashtra is very low. The present study study was carried out to assess socio-economic status of fishers of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. Information was collected through the well-structured interview schedule. A total of 64 fishermen were selected randomly for interview. The study revealed that 82.8 % fishermen were male and all are involved in fish and fishing related activity.

Optimization of groundnut (Arachis hopogaea L.) production technologies under various resource constraints in Konkan region

Groundnut production depends on the genetic potential of the cultivar and the cultural practices to which the crop is subjected. There are several constraints in groundnut production viz. fertilizer, plant protection and weed management often pose serious problems. Therefore, present study was carried out to focus on such limiting factors individually or in combination which may cause more yield reduction under resource constraint. Ratnagiri 8, a medium slender high yielding rice variety for six states of India

The rice variety Ratnagiri-8 (IET 25493; RTN 28-1-5-3-2) was evolved from the cross between IR64 and Karjat 184 using former parent as female through pedigree method of selection. The above variety is midlate in duration (135-138 days in Kharif), Semi-dwarf (102-110 cm plant height). Ratnagiri 8 rice variety recorded 38.52% higher grain yield over HYV’s medium slender check Palghar 1 pooled over five years testing in Station Trial.

Biochemical and microbiological quality of cultured shrimp litopenaeus vannamei of different farms of Ratnagiri

Shrimp aquaculture has become an economically important one and production has decreased in recent years due to the spread of infectious diseases, mostly that caused by bacterial infection. The shrimp are affected by the toxic substances which eventually enter in to their systems and bring about external damages. This study explores, it was aimed to assessment of the physiochemical and microbiological quality of different farmed shrimp from Ratnagiri.
