Bariatric surgery candidates commonly suffer from conditions that constitute the metabolic syndrome. But they also have a higher risk for autoimmune and malignant diseases. Obesity-associated comorbidities aside from the metabolic syndrome are often given insufficient attention in the clinical routine, including preoperative work-ups for bariatric surgery.

To present a case of successful pregnancy outcome in a granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) patient with renal insufficiency. GPA, formerly known as Wegener’s granulomatosis, is a rare necrotizing systemic vasculitis, presenting with classical clinical triad of manifestations involving upper and lower airway and glomerulonephritis.

Thrombocytopenia, anasarca, fever, reticulin myelofibrosis/renal insufficiency, and organomegaly (TAFRO) syndrome is treated using corticosteroids and/or immunosuppressive agents as first-line therapy. We report the case of a 69-year-old female with TAFRO syndrome in which the patient presented multiple organ failure and steroid resistance, which was successfully treated using plasma exchange (PE) followed by rituximab.

Methotrexate is an anticancer drug from the antimetabolite class. It is also used in gynecology and obstetrics for the medical treatment of ectopic pregnancies. Low-dose methotrexate-induced adverse toxic effects are rare. We report a case of toxic effect associated with severe renal insufficiency induced by LD-MTX (Low-Dose Methotrexate) for ectopic pregnancy.

The use of potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) in population of older adults may result in adverse drug events (ADE) already after short term exposure, especially when it is prescribed to patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). In order to limit ADE in the treatment of older adults PIM lists have been constructed as a source of information for healthcare professionals.

Renal dysfunction following intraoperative arterial hypotension is mainly caused by an insufficient renal blood flow. It is associated with higher mortality and morbidity rates. We hypothesised that the intraoperative haemodynamics are more stable during xenon anaesthesia than during isoflurane anaesthesia in patients undergoing partial nephrectomy.

To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of ablating renal cell carcinoma (RCC) by irreversible electroporation (IRE). Methods: Fifteen patients (19 lesions) with RCC who underwent IRE were retrospectively reviewed. Seven patients had solitary kidneys. Two lesions were located in the renal hilus. One patient had chronic renal insufficiency.

Intratumor heterogeneity may be responsible of the unpredictable aggressive clinical behavior that some clear cell renal cell carcinomas display. This clinical uncertainty may be caused by insufficient sampling, leaving out of histological analysis foci of high grade tumor areas.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are second most common medical problem of humans after respiratory tract infection. They are often recurrent, difficult to treat, and can cause parenchymal damage to the kidney, leading to renal insufficiency and further complications. The aim is to study increasing rates of antimicrobial resistant Escherichia coli (E. coli) among patients admitted with urinary tract infections. The details of E.

Asymptomatic hyperuricemia and chronic kidney disease: Narrative review of a treatment controversial
Today there is plausible evidence both on experimental and epidemiological basis, that hyperuricemia represents a risk factor for the development and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Nevertheless, the role of serum uric acid lowering treatment in CKD is still a matter of serious controversy. Review of randomised controlled trials, suggests that there may be an improvement of renal function with allopurinol treatment in CKD stage 3–5.

From the literature search results database, one researcher scanned the titles and abstracts of every article for each question and full publications were ordered for any studies considered relevant or if there was insufficient information from the title and abstract to inform a decision. When the papers were obtained the researcher applied inclusion/exclusion criteria to select appropriate studies which were then critically appraised.

Sedation is the important factor in comfort of brain trauma patients. Insuffient sedation causes hypertension, tachycardia, hypoxia, hypercapnia and uncomfortable with ventilator. On the other hand excess sedation causes hypotansion, bradycardia, coma, respiratory depresion, ileus, renal insufficiency, veinous stasis and immunosupression. For the patients in the critical care unit firstly nonpharmacological method should be experinced for sedation. The patients should be frequently oriented.
