Ebook "Lignocellulosic composite materials" comprehensively summarizes important aspects of research in the active field of lignocellulosic (polymer) composites, including polymer materials from or containing cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. It describes how these materials can be produced from forest products and natural fibers from sources such as jute, flax, sisal, and many more, and even from agricultural residues (like wheat straw, corn stover, or sugarcane bagasse).

Corn stalk is a renewable natural resource that currently has limited industrial utilization. The objective of this study was to examine some chemical properties of corn stalk (holocellulose, α-cellulose, lignin and ash content, alcoholbenzene, hot and cold water solubility, and solubility in dilute alkali [1% NaOH]) and to evaluate its suitability for medium-density fiberboard (MDF) production.

The work programme also covers the complementary policy objective of addressing specific global health issues. Greater focus will be placed on antimicrobial resistance and continuing to address emerging epidemics. In antimicrobial resistance the aim will be to further focus on understanding of the evolution and the transfer of antibiotic resistance as well as antimicrobial drug resistance in Gram negative infections, the development of tools to control microbial biofilms and the development of multi-analyte diagnostics.

Intensity of use of freshwater resources (both surface and groundwater) is expressed as gross abstractions per capita, as a percentage of total available renewable freshwater resources, including inflows from neighbouring countries (see below) and as a percentage of internal resources. It has to be noted that when measured at national level these indicators may hide significant variations at territorial level. Wastewater treatment connection rates show the percentage of the national population actually connected to public waste water treatment plants.
