This study was conducted to: (1) identify new SNPs for residual feed intake (RFI) and performance traits within candidate genes identified in a genome wide association study (GWAS); (2) estimate the proportion of variation in RFI explained by the detected SNPs; (3) estimate the effects of detected SNPs on carcass traits to avoid undesirable correlated effects on these economically important traits when selecting for feed efficiency; and (4) map the genes to biological mechanisms and pathways.

This review provides new insight into the RFI and its relationship with productive traits in different species of poultry. In poultry breeding programs, use of the RFI in selection procedures as a negative trait must be adopted to produce an efficient breed with low feed costs and high productivity. From the point of view of an environmental perspective, selecting birds with lower RFI reduces emissions of ammonia and greenhouse gases from poultry houses.

Feed efficiency (FE) is an indicator of efficiency in converting energy and nutrients from feed into a tissue that is of major environmental and economic significance. The molecular mechanisms contributing to differences in FE are not fully elucidated, therefore the objective of this study was to profile the porcine Longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL) muscle transcriptome, examine the product quality from pigs divergent in FE and investigate the functional networks underpinning the potential relationship between product quality and FE.

The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of oxytetracycline (OTC)- dosing at five different concentrations, viz., 0 mg (0X), 80 mg (1X), 240 mg (3X), 400 mg (5X) and 800 mg (10X) kg-1 biomass day-1 for 30 consecutive days on the growth, safety and intestinal histology of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.) juveniles. The OTC-residues in the edible muscle were detected at scheduled intervals by LCMS/MS. A dose-dependent decline in feed intake, biomass and survival were recorded in OTC-dosed fish. The OTC-residue levels were 0, 204.75±45.75, 318.00±0.00, 778.50±145.

High yielding crossbred cows are fed high amount of concentrate which poses metabolic disorders. TMR feeding is suitable for high concentrate feeding. RFI is a measure of efficiency which has not been explored in crossbred cows. Therefore present study was undertaken to study the effect of TMR feeding of performance and RFI in crossbred cows. Twelve cows were divided in to two groups of six animals each and fed ration with 60:40 roughage: concentrate ratio. The animals were fed individually and daily feed intake and refusal were recorded. The DM intake was calculated.
