  • Alginate and nanocellulose are potential biomaterials to be employed as bioinks for three-dimensional (3D) printing. Alginate-cellulose nanofibers (A-CNF) formulations with CNF amounts up to 5 wt% were developed and rheologically characterized to evaluate their printability. Results showed that formulations with less than 3 wt% CNF did not present suitable characteristics to ensure shape fidelity after printing.

  • The aim of this work was to prepare metal soaps of epoxidized sunflower oil (ESO) and use them as thermal stabilizers for polyvinyl chloride (PVC). For that purpose, commercial sunflower oil was first epoxidized and then used to prepare (Ba, Zn, Pb, and Cd) metal soap derivatives, which were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The prepared metal soaps derivatives of ESO were used as thermal stabilizers for plasticized PVC.

  • Blends of polyphenylene oxide (PPO) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) were prepared by melt-mixing method. Flammability of these blends was studied by using UL-94 (plastics flammability standard) and LOI (limited oxygen index) tests. The results showed the role of PPO as flame retardant in the blends which can inhibit the burning process. All blends of PPO and ABS were graded as V-1 and LOI values were higher than 21. As a physical mixture, tensile strength of PPO/ABS blends maintained values between the tensile of neat ABS and PPO.
