Lactic acid bacteria widely used in food preservation at refrigerator temperatures due to their ability produce high amount of hydrogen peroxide and/or other antibacterial substances at refrigerator temperatures to inhibit food-borne pathogens and psychrophilic spoilage microorganisms. In order to improve of bio-preservation efficacy of Lactobacillus acidophilus GH 201 mutations causing resistance to rifampicin (rif) were used.

In the sediment environment around the cages, both the Dam Bay and Hon Mieu farming areas showed the highest rates of antibiotic-resistant bacteria against TET, NIF and RIF had the lowest rate of resistant bacteria. Among the total of 109 strains tested for antibiotic resistance, 2 strains labeled TCBS_HM200 m and SS_HM200 m were found to be resistant to all 5 tested antibiotics. These two strains were respectively identified as Vibrio harveyi and Oceanimonas sp.

Drug resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) remains a global health problem. The diagnosis, treatment, and management of DR-TB are the major challenges to Vietnam National Tuberculosis Control Program. One of the most important solutions for overcoming this problem is developing reliable and low-cost methods, which have been proposed to Drug Susceptibility Testing (DST) to detect drug resistant tuberculosis. The methods have to be reasonably simple so that they can be widely used in provincial Lung hospitals.

Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is the most devastating complication of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. Diagnosis of TBM is challenging in young children due to the paucibacillary nature of disease. Microscopy for acid-fast bacilli in CSF is fast but has very low sensitivity whereas culture may take up to 42 days. Due to the urgency of diagnosis in suspected TBM cases, a rapid, accurate diagnostic test could have a great impact on survival.

India is high tuberculosis burdened country with increasing prevalence of multidrug resistant tuberculosis. Rapid diagnosis and prompt treatment of infectious cases are the key elements in reducing the spread of tuberculosis. In the present study we sought to ascertain multidrug resistant tuberculosis among previously treated tuberculosis cases and its resistance pattern to rifampicin and isoniazid genes.

The general approach to treatment is summarized in Figure 1. Because of the relatively high proportion of adult patients with tuberculosis caused by organisms that are resistant to isoniazid, four drugs are necessary in the initial phase for the 6-month regimen to be maximally effective. Thus, in most circumstances, the treatment regimen for all adults with previously untreated tuberculosis should consist of a 2-month initial phase of isoniazid (INH), rifampin (RIF), pyrazinamide (PZA), and ethambutol (EMB) (Table 2, Regimens 1–3).

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the world’s most important infectious causes of morbidity and mortality among adults. An estimated one-third of the world’s population is infected with TB. In 2010, there were 8.8 million new, and 12.0 million prevalent cases of TB; 1.1 million deaths occurred among HIV-uninfected people and an additional 0.35 million deaths among HIV-infected people (WHO 2011a). Of the total new TB cases, an estimated 12% to 14% occurred among people living with HIV. Approximately one million TB cases occur in children younger than 15 years old annually (Marais 2010a).
