Estimating punching shear capacity (PSC) of steel fibre reinforced concrete slabs (SFRCS) is a crucial task in structural design. This study investigates the performances of artificial neural networks trained by the adaptive moment estimation (Adam) method in dealing with the task of interest. To alleviate overfitting problem, decoupled weight decay (AdamW) and L2 regularization (AdamL2) are used. A dataset including 140 samples has been used to train and verify the machine learning approaches.

A study was conducted at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute’s greenhouse with 48 maize genotypes through hydroponic culture. Morphologically, plants behave differently in low phosphorus conditions than in normal phosphorus environments. Large augmented roots were found in the plant in low phosphorus conditions. The results revealed that chlorophyll contents, shoot length, root length shoot dry weight, root dry weight, leaf area, and root/shoot ratio might be considered critical traits for screening low phosphorus tolerant maize at the seedling stage.

The objective of the study "Effects of some commercial products on root and crown rot caused by Phytophthora cactorum in apple cultivation" was to evaluate the effects of eleven commercial products (bio-pesticides, fertilizers, and activators) on P. cactorum by comparing plant growth parameters (trunk diameter, plant height, number of branches, and root dry weight). Trials were conducted according to a randomized complete block design with three replicates in a greenhouse in 2 consecutive years.

The study "Biochar mitigates salt stress by regulating nutrient uptake and antioxidant activity, alleviating the oxidative stress and abscisic acid content in cabbage seedlings" was conducted as factorial completely randomized design with two factors; salinity levels (0 and 150 mM NaCl) and biochar doses (weighed at the rate of 0%, 2.5%, and 5% by soil weight). Growth parameters such as stem diameter, leaf area, shoot fresh weight, root fresh weight, shoot dry weight, and root dry weight of cabbage seedlings treated with 150 mM NaCl were lower than the control.

The obtained results showed that as the concentration of heavy metals increased in soil, the fresh and dry weights of the growing plants gradually decreased. The application of 200 mg kg−1 soil of Pb and Cd reduced the fresh weights of shoot and root (up to 76.6% and 64.3%; 88.5% and 80.80%, respectively), shoot and root length (up to 71.6% and 94.1%; 83.2% and 95.1%, respectively).

This study investigated the effect of foliar application of putrescine on growth, biochemical, essential oil percent and morpho-anatomical characteristics of Thymus vulgaris L. under water deficit conditions. In pot experiments, plants were grown under two different irrigation levels 70–80% and 30–40% of water holding capacity and foliar sprayed with putrescine at 0, 0.1 and 0.2 mM twice at 10 and 50 days after transplanting.

In this study, Lythrum salicaria plant was tested in hydroponic culture to demonstrate its zinc accumulating capacity and tolerance to different zinc levels. Lythrum salicaria seedlings were grown in 10% Hoagland solution containing 0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75, and 100 mg/L zinc, and 30 mg/L zinc with different pH levels (5, 6, and 7). Following this, the seedlings were harvested after 1st, 2nd, 4th and 7th days. Zinc caused significant decreases in the relative values of the mean root-shoot length and fresh weight of the plant (92 to 75%; 100 to 92%; 64.2 to 41.

We derived a protein hydrolysate with rich content, which includes proteinogenic and nonproteinogenic amino acids, from chicken feathers by using an alkaline hydrolysis procedure with high yield success. After foliar application of aqueous solutions (0.05%, 0.075%, and 0.1%) of chicken feather protein hydrolysate (CFPH) to the seedlings of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. ‘Altındane’ and ‘Bezostaya’), their effects were evaluated on important physiological and biochemical parameters.

Statistically significant differences in seed germination rate occurred between treatments. Growth indicators such as stem height, root length, and leaf area were measured after 14 d after treatment with water containing NBs. Statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences in the dry weight of samples between treatments although these differences were quite small.

A pot experiment was conducted in a net house to evaluate the effects of drought stress (a 20-day water withholding treatment from 100- 120 days after planting) on the growth and physiology of five sugarcane cultivars. The influence of soil moisture on the infection, hyphal development and uptake of P of a VA mycorrhizal fungus Glomus fasciculatum in Quinoa was studied at four different moisture levels (-0.2; -0.6; -1.2 and -2.4 MPa). Maximum increase in dry weight was observed at -0.2 MPa level. There was a proportionate increase in total P content in shoot and root of a plant at decreased moisture levels.

The rate of growth of seedling, the rate of increase of root, shoot, area of the first leaf and the dry weight of the crop plant was faster due to treatment of the seed with whey in comparison to the untreated control. Other parameters may also be incorporated such as increase in the number of cells and biochemical content of the cells, tissue and the whole plant accumulated or stored as a result of chain of synthetic process of which raw material are basically provided by the photosynthesis. Thus the photosynthesis is the key point to make available the raw material for the growth.

The plant-microbe interaction effect of these bacteria, either singly or in combination, on growth and development of maize (Malviya Hybrid Maize 2) were also studied.
