Rural youth employment

Rural youth are showing less interest in farming as it not provider of employment round the year. They are migrating to Urban cities/towns in search of jobs for their income earning and livelihood. This phenomenon badly affected the agriculture sector not only in Karnataka state but across the India. To provide skill training for the rural youth Govt. launched several initiatives among them imparting skill trainings is one.

The study was undertaken with an objective to assess perceived constraints of mushroom grower in mushroom production enterprise. The study was purposively undertaken in flood prone Malda district of West Bengal due to gaining popularity of mushroom production enterprise among rural women and unemployed rural youth who were adopting this venture for employment generation. The rural youth were very much interested in mushroom production enterprise but now they have perceived various constraints in adoption of this enterprise for self-employment.

In the developing nation like India unemployment is the matter of concern. Employment, as an economic phenomenon with strong social implications. The global population of young people aged 15 to 24 is more than one billion (IFAD, 2014). Unemployment among rural youth is very high, forty per cent of youth population is vulnerable regarding employment. Quail farming fetches income to rural youth. But lack of awareness on self employment through quail farming among rural youth, poor livelihood and non availability of quail chicks in local market were the problems identified among rural youth. Hence demonstration of Japanese Quail rearing among rural youth was conducted by KVK, Kattupakkam and the study was carried out in five villages of Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu during 2017-18.
