In ebook "Ecophysiology of high salinity tolerant plants (Tasks for vegetation science 40)" the halophytes are highly specialized plants, which have greater tolerance to salt. They can germinate, grow and reproduce successfully in saline areas which would cause the death of regular plants. Most halophytic species are found in salt marsh systems along seashores or around landlocked inland lakes and flat plains with high evaporation.

The sedimentary record confirmed that microplastics have been accumulating in these estuaries since the early 1950s, and their abundances have increased greatly in more recent years in response to the progressive urbanization of the watersheds and intensification of land uses. Our results highlight the role of salt marsh sediments as sinks for microplastics in the marine environment.

In this paper, we constructed the halophyte Mesocosm experimental group which was used as a substrate material that consisted of tidal flat and dredged sediment. Depending on whether the ingredients of vegetation and substrate material of Mesocosm, we constructed Mesocosm A (tidal flat sediment + Salicornia herbecea), Mesocosm B (only dredged sediment), Mesocosm C (dredged sediment + Salicornia herbecea).

Cistanche phelypaea (L.) Cout. (Orobancaceae) was found parasitising the roots of the succulent shrublets Arthrocnemum macrostachyum (Moric.) K.Koch (Chenopodiaceae) in a coastal salt marsh in Qatar. Measurements were conducted to identify soil properties, host, and noninfected plants by soil excavations to expose the haustoria of the parasite attached to the host roots.
