This study investigates the foreign language anxiety of EFL students at some upper secondary schools in Thua Thien Hue province. Specifically, it aims to explore students’ attitudes towards foreign language anxiety and teachers’ attitudes toward their students’ foreign language anxiety. The study employed questionnaire, autobiography and interview to collect data. The questionnaire was delivered to 150 students from two upper-secondary schools in Thua Thien Hue province.

The findings identified possible causes of anxiety in preparing for the English test in the national high school graduation exam, among which the students’ fear for the difficult contents of the test and pressure of time to prepare for the test, the students’ difficulties in selecting the right materials and identifying the appropriate methods to study efficiently, and the students’ reliance on only the textbook when preparing for the test were found to be prominent.

This study discovered 12 school experiences with high anxiety levels through questionnaires given to 229 fifth year students aged 10-11 and developed several situations into a virtual environment that can be used as a treatment program for students. 20 students with very high anxiety were chosen to experience the virtual reality (VR) treatment program. The findings show that student’s anxiety levels for the situations they have experienced in the treatment program have decreased dramatically.

The paper investigated the foreign language listening anxiety of 171 first-year non-English major students at School of Foreign Languages - Thai Nguyen University. To achieve the desired aims, questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were conducted. The analysis of the collected data reveals that although the respondents considered listening as an important skill in learning English process, they could not have enjoyment when being in listening class.

There is a need to prevent anxiety and depression in young people and mindfulness contains important emotion regulation strategies. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), a mindfulness-based therapy, has yet to be evaluated as a prevention program, but has demonstrated an ability to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression in adult and adolescent populations.

The efficacy of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for anxiety related problems in children is empirically supported. In addition, universal anxiety prevention programmes based on CBT have been demonstrated in recent years. Anxiety and depressive symptoms are common in childhood, however problems in need of intervention may not be identified. Children at risk for developing more severe problems can be identified based on elevated symptom levels. Quality of life and self-esteem are important functional domains and may provide additional valuable information.
