Pyogenic spondylitis by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is known to be intractable. In the past, the insertion of an implant into infected vertebra was considered contraindicated in affected patients because it may exacerbate the infection, but there are increasing numbers of reports indicating the usefulness of posterior fixation to correct instability and alleviate infection.

When a hip screw needs to be changed, choosing between the conventional (C-type) and helical blade (H-type) types is difficult. In this biomechanical study, we compared these two screw types relative to the type of the initial screw used.

The implantation of screws is a standard procedure in musculoskeletal surgery. Heat can induce thermal osteonecrosis, damage the bone and lead to secondary problems like implant loosening and secondary fractures. The aim of this study was to investigate whether screw insertion generates temperatures that can cause osteonecrosis. The screw design (cortical > locking), the site of measurement (trans-cortex > cis-cortex) and the type of screw insertion (hand insertion > machine insertion) have an influence on the increase in bone temperature.

Few reports to date have evaluated the efects of diferent pedicle screw insertion depths on sagittal balance and prognosis after posterior lumbar interbody and fusion (PLIF) in patients with lumbar degenerative spon‑ dylolisthesis (LDS). A total of 88 patients with single-level PLIF for LDS from January 2018 to December 2019 were enrolled. Long screw group (Group L): 52 patients underwent long pedicle screw fxation (the leading edge of the screw exceeded 80% of the anteroposterior diameter of vertebral body).

Cervical pedicle screw (CPS) insertion is a technically demanding procedure. The quantitative understanding of cervical pedicle morphology, especially the narrowest part of cervical pedicle or isthmus, would minimize the risk of catastrophic damage to surrounding neurovascular structures and improve surgical outcome.

To improve the strength of posterior spine fixation in patients with osteoporosis, some scholars have proposed a method of simultaneously inserting traditional pedicle screws and cortical bone trajectory screws into the pedicle.

To place the magic screw more simply, we established a set of reproducible fluoroscopic views and a standardized procedure of magic screw insertion. Materials and methods: This study on the magic screw tunnel uses a three-dimensional reconstruction model and a skeleton projection. The 3D model of the pelvis was made to be transparent and it was rotated to the place where the ischial spine was just sheltered by the posterior wall of the acetabulum.

Nutrient foramina are often encountered around the entry point of pedicle screws. Further, while probing the pedicle for pedicle screw insertion around the nutrient foramen, bleeding from the probe insertion hole is often observed.

Iliosacral screw fixation is a popular method for the management of posterior pelvic ring fractures or dislocations, providing adequate biomechanical stability. Our aim in this study was to describe the use of a new patient-specific external template to guide the insertion of iliosacral screws and to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this technique compared with the conventional fluoroscopy-guided technique.

Misplaced screw during the internal fixation of acetabular fractures may penetrate the hip joint which might cause chondrolysis and traumatic osteoarthritis in the future. This study aims to acquire the safe path for screw insertion along inferior border of the arcuate line fixation route at acetabular area.

At present, bicortical pedicle screws (BPSs) are not used clinically because they carry the potential risk of damaging the prevertebral great vessels (PGVs). The authors observed the anatomical relationship between the PGVs and simulated BPSs at different transverse screw angles (TSAs), exploring the insertion method of the BPS.

We studied the characteristics and regularity of appropriate insertion points for percutaneous pedicle screw placement in the lumbar spine using C-arm X-ray fluoroscopy. The purpose of this study was to improve the accuracy of percutaneous pedicle screw placement and reduce the incidence of superior-level facet joint violation.

Cervical Pedicle Screw (CPS) placement is a challenging work due to the high risk of neurovascular complications. Although there have been several different free-hand or navigation assisted techniques for CPS placement, perforations may occur during screw insertion, especially lateral perforation.
