The bracing systems have been considered a reliable solution for the seismic-resistant design of buildings, which has been widely applied in recent years. This article aims to investigate the performance of braced frame structures in the seismic-resistant design. Typical buckling restrained braced frames, represented by an approximate bilinear behaviour, are selected to perform nonlinear time-history analyses.

The 2020 Samos, M7.0 earthquake was characterized by an unusual bi-modal-type distribution of damage: limited damage in the nearfield (especially northern Samos coast) and serious localized damage in multi-story buildings in the far field (İzmir area). This pattern is not consistent with the typical distribution of isoseismal lines, and it seems not to represent an isolated effect; the 2014 Samothraki- Gökçeada M6.9 earthquake, for example, may in fact represent a parallel, though at smaller scale.

In this paper, various frames with their spans of 20, 26, 32 and 38 m and locations built in Hanoi and Son La regions were designed to resist dead, roof live, crane and wind loads. The equivalent horizontal and vertical static earthquake loads applied on the frames were determined.

The evaluation of liquefaction potential of soil due to an earthquake is an important step in geosciences. This article examines the capability of Minimax Probability Machine (MPM) for the prediction of seismic liquefaction potential of soil based on the Cone Penetration Test (CPT) data. The dataset has been taken from Chi–Chi earthquake. MPM is developed based on the use of hyperplanes. It has been adopted as a classification tool. This article uses two models (MODEL I and MODEL II). MODEL I employs Cone Resistance (qc) and Cyclic Stress Ratio (CSR) as input variables.

This paper presents a methodology to utilize performance-based seismic design procedure for evaluating the effect of heating in lead core of isolated structures with lead-rubber bearing based on collapse assessment and seismic loss estimation. Nonlinear archetypes of conventional 4-story steel special moment resisting frame, isolated intermediate moment resisting frame with and without heating in lead core effect are compared with each other under far-field (FF) and near-field earthquakes.

In this research, the performance abilities associated with tube type lateral load resistant framed systems are studied in order to assess the seismic response parameters ofsteel tall buildings under both far and near-field records. For this purpose, four 30 story structural models with separated framed tube-based skeletons were selected and designed.

In current work, an effective method is introduced for the optimal cross-section distribution in steel moment resisting frames under severe earthquakes by means of uniform deformation theory and adaptive method. The main goal is to distribute the construction material (weight) along the height of the structure in such a way that the lowest damage due to earthquakes is obtained. In adaptive method, materials gradually transfer from strong parts to weak parts by an iteration procedure during nonlinear time history analysis.

In this paper, an attempt is made to examine the efficiency of an approximate incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) method to estimate the collapse capacity of conventional steel structures. To this purpose, two partially collapsed steel structures are selected. Both two structures are comprised of an ordinarymoment resisting frame systemin one direction, and a braced frame system in other perpendicular direction.
