Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is now a candidate therapy for children with acute respiratory failure. The successful outcome in this case resulted from the central ECMO, which enabled “lung rest” and adequate cerebral blood flow. In skilled ECMO facilities, early implementation of ECMO would give some advantages to patients such as the one presented here.

Epilepsy is one of the most common and important neurological disorders among children especially in developing countries. Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) is an intracellular protozoan capable of forming cysts in the brain of chronically infected humans. Moreover, the larvae of Toxocara canis (T. canis) can locate in the central nervous system leading to several neurological disorders. This study was undertaken to identify the prevalence and risk factors of toxocariasis and toxoplasmosis in children with idiopathic epilepsy.

Obtaining an accurate 24-hour-sleep-wake history is extremly important. History should be focused also on relevant factors as medical history, compensation of epilepsy, type and frequency of epileptic seizures, their incidence according to circadian cycle and actual antiepileptic medication, or other drug and medication use. Also social, enviromental or psychological conditions, which may interfere with sleep quality, should be evaluated. Neurological examination in connection with neuroimaging methods (MRI) can detect cerebral leasions as the reason of sleep problems.
