Satellite images have a remarkable ability to help researchers map the distribution and detect the nature of the soil exposed on the earth's surface. The remote-sensing mapping of clayey soils makes it possible to determine their shrinking-swelling potentials.

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of the effect of wetting-drying cycles on the surface cracking and swell-shrink behavior of modified expansive soils. An image processing technique was employed to understand this effect by quantifying the surface crack area density, crack number, crack length, mean crack width, and absolute shrinkage.

The literal meaning of Hysteresis is to be lagged behind. In soil system, it is evident that the two soil moisture characteristic curves do not follow the exact same reversible path. As a result a hysteretic behaviour is experienced. Several causes may be attributed like non uniformity of pores, contact angle difference, entrapped air in pore space and the swelling and shrinking property of soil. To predict the hysteretic behaviour, several models defining the character were also suggested like Conceptual models and Empirical models.

An experiment entitled "Influence of pre and post-emergence herbicides on weed dynamics, growth and yield of soybean (Glycine max L.)" was conducted in Kharif season 2015 at research farm of BRAUSS, MHOW, (M.P.). The soil of the experimental field was medium black in texture, neutral in reaction (pH 7.60) with normal EC (0.45 dS/m) and medium organic carbon contents (0.72 %) and analysing low in available N (270 kg/ha), medium in available P (6.9 kg/ha) and high in available K (382 kg/ha) contents.
