  • The ability of the hyperthermophilic archaeon Sulfolobus solfataricus P2 to grow on organic and inorganic sulfur sources was investigated. A sulfur-free mineral medium was employed with different sources of carbon. The results showed that inorganic sulfur sources display growth curve patterns significantly different from the curves obtained with organic sulfur sources. Combustion of fossil fuels leads to the atmospheric emission of sulfur oxides that contribute to acid rain and air pollution.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between ownership and employment growth. With a sample of 5,461 firms and using the Heckman two-stage model (to eliminate selection sample bias), the main findings are follows: Compared to firms with 100% capital ownership, domestic firms with less than 50% state capital, domestic private firms, joint stock firms without state capital, 100% foreign capital firms, and joint venture (non-state and foreign) firms have positively significant impacts on employment growth. A change in ownership is not significant to employment growth.

  • Sorghum downy mildew (SDM) caused by the oomycete, Peronosclerospora sorghi, is one of the destructive diseases that afflict maize. P. sorghi infects a susceptible host, hindering its growth and altering its morphology. To understand the molecular basis of the compatibility interaction between P. sorghi and maize, a comparative proteomic approach (2D-PAGE) was employed between the mock-inoculated (control) and SDM-inoculated leaves in the susceptible genotypes of maize (UMI79 and CM500).

  • A prospective study was conducted on twenty five cutaneous growths from various breeds of cattle were assessed for cellular proliferation by employing AgNORs (Argyrophilic Nucleolar Organizing Regions) staining method. Histochemical assessment of AgNORs revealed a significantly higher count in malignant neoplasms in comparison to benign neoplasms. The AgNOR counts in cutaneous and teat papillomas ranged from 1.98 to 2.68 with an average count of 2.33. The NOR counts was highest in squamous cell carcinoma (6.12), followed by melanoma (3.24), fibroma (3.16) and trichoepithelioma (2.31).

  • This study aimed to examines the nexus of population, gross domestic product (GDP) growth, electricity generation, electricity consumption, and carbon emissions output using the time series data. This study employed the time series analysis, Pearson correlation, and regressions analysis to identify the pattern, relationship among variables and determine the significant predictors contributing carbon emissions in Malaysia. The results shown a growing trend in GDP, population, electricity generation, consumption, and emissions output in Malaysia.

In this study, the estimation of total factor productivity of millets in Karnataka and returns to investment in research in Karnataka is attempted. For the study, the time series data on the cost of cultivation was collected from farm management reports, published by Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Karnataka. The Tornqvist Theil index of TFP is used for measuring TFP growth. Regression analysis was employed to identify sources of TFP growth.

  • The experiment was conducted to control the Sclerotium rolfsii causing of collar rot disease in sunflower in- vitro condition. Different fungicides, region specific bio-agents and bio-rationals were screened against the pathogen. Among the fungicides Tebuconazole gave significantly (at 5% level) highest percent inhibition of the growth in all concentrations. Among the seven bio-rationals at 10% concentration, the maximum per cent inhibition was observed in neem (69.26%) wherever at 20% and 30% concentration the maximum per cent inhibition was observed in cow urine (80.74%).

  • The authors wanted to find out how recent financial crisis influenced performance of Croatian banks measured with ROA, ROE, NIM and Tobin's Q. Having this aim in mind, we have used many bank-specific, industry-specific or structural variables and macroeconomic variables. The analysis refers to 2007-2015 period. The research is conducted using static panel model on a balanced sample of Croatian banks listed on Zagreb Stock Exchange. The results of the analysis show that crisis dummy variable significantly influences performance but its direction is not uniform.

  • This paper investigates the impacts of market structure and risk on profitability of Indian banks after controlling the influences of some bank specific and macroeconomic determinants. Employing two-step Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) system estimator on a data set of 40 listed Indian commercial banks over a period of 15 years (2002 – 2016), our results suggest that there is a moderate degree of persistence of profit in Indian banking sector during the study period. We find significant negative impact of bank risk on profitability in the Indian banking Industry.
