Optical properties of protein-conjugated metallic nanowires are theoretically investigated based on the Mie theory and the core-shell model. Our numerical calculations show that optical spectra of protein-conjugated nanowires can have more a maximum compared to these nanowires without biomolecules.

In this work, a range of factors was investigated for the synthesis of silver nanowires. Nickel chloride showed to be a promising controlling agent for the scale-up synthesis of silver nanowires. Other factors such as reaction temperature, concentrations of surfactant, precursor, controlling agent, and the effect of degassing were studied and optimized. The synthesized silver nanowire sample was applied for flexible electrode fabrication.

Silver nanowires with one-dimensional structures have attracted much research interest due to their potential applications in several areas. It is well-known that their properties strongly depend on the size and morphology of the silver nanostructures. Therefore, in our work, silver nanostructures were prepared using a polyol process and the effects of synthesis conditions on the formation and morphology of silver nanowires were investigated.

In this work, we have investigated the effects of thermal annealing on interconnected at nanowire junctions and between AgNWS network and rGO films via their sheet resistance and transmission. The annealing temperature was varied from 120˚C to 180˚C with 10˚C step to find out optimal temperature at which the wires can be joined together. The results show that at 170˚C, the sheet resistance and transmission of the hybrid rGO/Ag NW film are Rs = 10.

In this report, we study the effect of silver nanowires (AgNws) dimension to electrical properties of rGO/AgNws hybrid. The alteration of these electrical properties leads the difference of ammonia sensibility of the rGO/AgNws hybrid based sensing devices. When the rGO is accompanied by AgNws of different sizes from ∼ 500 nm to > 10 µm, the ammonia sensitivity of these hybrids change from 60% to 340% alteration compared with the bare rGO material.

With one-dimensional nanostructure, the AgNWs connects effectively together many rGO islands and reduce significantly their contact resistance so that NH3 sensing signal is improved and complete recovery of the sensor is nearly achieved at room temperature. Especially, all these signals are further enhanced when the AuNPs (diameter ~ 30 nm) are added into the hybrid.

Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) were synthesized and incorporated with polyethylene dioxythiophene:poly(4-styrenesulfonate (PEDOT:PSS), Ag nanowires (AgNWs) to form a composite that can be used for enhancement of relative humidity (RH%) sensing. The composite films contained bulk heterojunctions of AgNW/GQD and AgNW/PEDOT:PSS. The sensors made from the composites responded well to relative humidity in a range from 10% to 50% at room temperature.
