  • In this paper, a smoothed weighted function with the compact support is suggested to improve the numerical accuracy of blending elements for the extended finite element method (XFEM) applied to the crack problem.

  • We study some properties of modified Szasz-Mirakyan operators in Holder exponential weighted spaces. We give theorems on the degree of approximation of functions by these operators.

  • In the present work, we investigate estimates of the deviations of the periodic functions from the linear operators constructed on the basis of its Fourier series in reflexive weighted Orlicz spaces with Muckenhoupt weights.

  • Shortage of manually labeled data is an obstacle to supervised relation extraction methods. In this paper we investigate a graph based semi-supervised learning algorithm, a label propagation (LP) algorithm, for relation extraction. It represents labeled and unlabeled examples and their distances as the nodes and the weights of edges of a graph, and tries to obtain a labeling function to satisfy two constraints: 1) it should be fixed on the labeled nodes, 2) it should be smooth on the whole graph. ...

  • Most sentiment analysis approaches use as baseline a support vector machines (SVM) classifier with binary unigram weights. In this paper, we explore whether more sophisticated feature weighting schemes from Information Retrieval can enhance classification accuracy. We show that variants of the classic tf.idf scheme adapted to sentiment analysis provide significant increases in accuracy, especially when using a sublinear function for term frequency weights and document frequency smoothing.

  • For many classically chaotic systems it is believed that the quantum wave functions become uniformly distributed, that is the matrix elements of smooth observables tend to the phase space average of the observable. In this paper we study the fluctuations of the matrix elements for the desymmetrized quantum cat map. We present a conjecture for the distribution of the normalized matrix elements, namely that their distribution is that of a certain weighted sum of traces of independent matrices in SU(2).

  • To implement this method a problem is that the observed option prices do not provide a continuous range, so that the resulting RND is not a well-behaved function. We overcome this problem by using the smoothed volatility smile. From the observed option prices, the implied volatilities are extracted by means of the Black-Scholes pricing function. To obtain a smoothed volatility smile we then transform our data set of implied volatilities from the volatility/strike space to the volatility/delta space.
