  • Suffusion is one of the four types of internal erosion and accounts for 46% of erosion phenomena in earth dams. Suffusion is an erosion of fine particles inside the soil structure that move out of the voids between coarse particles caused by permeability flow. Identification of internal erosion is necessary to mitigate the loss of humans and property as underground erosion occurs.

  • In this study, 341 Bacillus sp. strains were isolated from agricultural soils of Turkey. The potent extracellular lipase producer was selected. It was identified by 16S rRNA, named as Bacillus cereus ATA179. Optimal nutritional and physical parameters for lipase production were determined. Sucrose as the carbon source, (NH4 )2 HPO4 as the nitrogen source, CaCl2 as the metal ion were obtained. The best results of physical parameters were stated at 45°C, pH 7.0, shaking rate 50 rpm, inoculation amount 7% and inoculum age 24 h.

  • Conservation agriculture (CA) has potential to changes soil physical, chemical and biological soil quality parameters compared to conventional tillage (CT) systems. The improved bio-physico-chemical soil quality in turn, affect the ecosystem services and sustainability of crop production system through counterbalancing the climate variability with the help of increasing sink for carbon sequestration within the soil. CA can also affect the functional diversity of soil microbes that essential for improved soil quality, crop production and many ecosystem services.

  • The main objective of this study was to assess the effect of conventional and protected systems of farming on soil physical parameters. Texture across the various sites varied from sandy loam to clay loam. Mean of two years (2015 and 2016) revealed comparatively lower bulk density inside protected cultivation (1.12 Mg m-3 ) as compared to conventional system (1.24 Mg m-3 ). There were as such no differences were observed in particle density. However, porosity and water holding capacity differ inside protected and conventional system of production.

  • Following the industrial revolution in the nineteenth century, agricultural machinery and tractors became available for tillage operations. Different types of tillage systems have different tillage depths and capacity to change soil physical properties that affect the crop yield and quality. Important soil physical properties such as bulk density, penetration resistance, water infiltration, hydraulic conductivity and soil compaction are affected by tillage.

  • Amongst six natural lignocellulosic waste/raw material screened, millet straw contained maximum cellulose (30 %) and physical and chemical pre-treatment yielded maximum cellulase activity. The composition of millet straw showed 30 % cellulose, 10 % hemicellulose, 8.73 % total organic carbon, 0.7 % total nitrogen and 0.8 ppm phosphorous. Amongst four fungi of genus Aspergillus isolated from local soil dumps of kitchen and garden waste, Aspergillus flavus showed maximum cellulase activity on CMC agar medium and used for degradation of millet straw.

  • Soil reactivity with chemical oxidants is also important when considering the costs of the use of chemical oxidation. Excessive loss of a chemical oxidant that is reacting with organics in soil, instead of reacting with the contaminants, may preclude the use of the technology as an economically viable approach to site remediation. Different chemical oxidation technologies are most appropriate for particular hydrogeologic conditions. For example, Fenton’s Reagant may not be ideal for groundwater with high concentrations of carbonate.
