Spatially resolved optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) offers a means for rapid assessment of dose distributions in retrospective dosimetry and geochronology. Until recently, OSL imaging systems have largely been restricted to measurements of millimetre scale samples; this approach is not well suited for applications where the physical process of interest operates on centimetre scale (e.g., depth dependent trap eviction in exposed rocks, sediment mixing in soils, attenuation of gamma radiation, etc.).

The results showed that SOM content was higher in horizon A, whereas mineral matrix elements Al, Fe, and Mg contents were higher in horizon B. Ca and P contents gradually decreased with soil depth due to the influence of fertilizer. Three types of trace element concentration profiles were identified: (1) decrease with depth for Cd and Hg

A carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)-degrading bacterium was isolated from soil, identified as Bacillus methylotrophicus according to the physiological properties and analyses of 16S rRNA and a partial sequence of the gyrase A (gyrA) gene, and named as B. methylotrophicus Y37. The CMCase enzyme was purified to homogeneity by 20.4-fold with 21.73% recovery using single-step hydrophobic interaction chromatography and biochemically characterized. CMCase showed a molecular weight of approximately 50 kDa as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Aluminum (Al) toxicity is a serious factor restricting crop productivity in acid soil, and Al is the major cause of phytotoxicity. However, the role of Al toxicity in interprimer binding site (iPBS) polymorphism, genomic instability, and DNA methylation has not been fully investigated. In the current study, the effects of different Al concentrations on iPBS polymorphism, genomic instability, and DNA methylation were investigated in seedlings of three wheat cultivars: Haymana 79, Kılçıksız, and Bezostaja 1.

Soil salinization represents a serious threat to global rice production. Although significant research has been conducted to understand salt stress at the genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic levels, few studies have focused on the translatomic responses to this stress.

Puccinellia tenuiflora is the most saline-alkali tolerant plant in the Songnen Plain, one of the three largest soda saline-alkali lands worldwide. Here, we investigated the physicochemical properties of saline-alkali soils from the Songnen Plain and sequenced the transcriptomes of germinated P. tenuiflora seedlings under long-term treatment (from seed soaking) with saline-alkali soil extracts.

Banana wilt disease, caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical Race 4 (Foc TR4), is one of the most devastating diseases in banana (Musa spp.). Foc is a soil borne pathogen that causes rot of the roots or wilt of leaves by colonizing the xylem vessels.

High throughput sequencing has spurred the development of metagenomics, which involves the direct analysis of microbial communities in various environments such as soil, ocean water, and the human body. Many existing methods based on marker genes or k-mers have limited sensitivity or are too computationally demanding for many users.

Peanut embryo development is a complex process involving a series of gene regulatory pathways and is easily affected by various elements in the soil. Calcium deficiency in the soil induces early embryo abortion in peanut, which provides an opportunity to determine the mechanism underlying this important event. MicroRNA (miRNA)-guided target gene regulation is vital to a wide variety of biological processes.

The Mi-1 gene was the first identified and cloned gene that provides resistance to root-knot nematodes (RKNs) in cultivated tomato. However, owing to its temperature sensitivity, this gene does not meet the need for breeding disease-resistant plants that grow under high temperature.

Ginseng rusty root symptoms (GRS) is one of the primary diseases of ginseng. This disease leads to a severe decline in the quality of ginseng. It has been shown that the occurrence of GRS is associated with soil environmental degradation, which may involve changes in soil microbiology and physicochemical properties.

Soil salinity is one of the major abiotic stress factors that affect crop growth and yield, which seriously restricts the sustainable development of agriculture. Quinoa is considered as one of the most promising crops in the future for its high nutrition value and strong adaptability to extreme weather and soil conditions.

Bread wheat is one of the most important crops for the human diet, but the increasing soil salinization is causing yield reductions worldwide. Improving salt stress tolerance in wheat requires the elucidation of the mechanistic basis of plant response to this abiotic stress factor.

In the past decades, next generation sequencing has improved our understanding of bacterial diversity in soil (Simon and Daniel, 2011). Nguyen et al. (2016) used 454 pyrosequencing to detect bacterial community in Korean ginseng cultivated soil in Korea. But the high cost of 454 pyrosequencing tools have limited small laboratories‟ access. Due to that, in 2001 Illumina developed MiSeq which have enabled deep sequencing of microbial communities at a lower cost (Caporaso et al., 2012).
