This study was conducted to examine the effects of baby corn density on the crop and weed performance under two different maizesoybean intercropping systems. The results showed that the yield of soybean and the growth of the weeds were statistically different under the different maize-soybean intercropping systems.

Safflower is an underutilized and minor oilseed crop that received less attention from the scientific community compared to other oilseed crops like soybean and sunflower. Exploring the genetic basis associated with agronomic traits is crucial for markerassisted breeding of safflower. A genome-wide association study was conducted using a total of 12,232 DArTseq markers to identify the marker-trait association for important agronomic traits in an international safflower panel derived from 26 different geographical countries of the world.

In addition to genetic variation, epigenetic variation plays an important role in determining various biological processes. The importance of natural genetic variation to crop domestication and improvement has been widely investigated. However, the contribution of epigenetic variation in crop domestication at population level has rarely been explored.

Evidence of introgression, the transfer of genetic material, between crops and their wild relatives through spontaneous hybridization and subsequent backcrossing has been documented; however, the evolutionary patterns and consequences of introgression and its influence on the processes of crop domestication and varietal diversification are poorly understood.

The Neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros and the green-belly stink bug Dichelops melacanthus are the most important pests today for the succession system of soy-corn in Brazil. Dichelops melacanthus attacks the emerging shoot (epicotyl) of corn plants at the seedling stage of their development, remaining and reproducing on the straw over generations. Euschistus heros, on the other hand, feeds directly on the grains and lodge under fallen leaves after the soybean harvest, due to the absence of another crop host.

The present study hypothesized that ruzigrass seed treatment and sowing density and period influence seed germination and seedling establishment and that physical and/or allelopathic effects of the leaves and petioles of soybean cultivars are a major factor for interseeding success. To test these hypotheses, the influences of seed treatment, sowing density, time, and soybean cultivar on the emergence of ruzigrass seedlings in a soybean interseeding system were evaluated with the aim of mitigating environmental effects in the establishment of forage in succession to soybean.

Furthermore, biochemical results were also in agreement with the molecular data, with enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities of peroxidase and catalase, and in couple with lower cellular content of the reactive oxygen species hydrogen peroxide in the transgenic plants. Taken these altogether, the transgenic plants might acquire advantages in dealing with oxidative stress using enzymes and proline, as well as cellular Na+ removal under salinity stress conditions.

Soybean is one of most important oilseed crop worldwide, however, its production is often limited by many insect pests. Bean pyralid is one of the major soybean leaf-feeding insects in China. To explore the defense mechanisms of soybean resistance to bean pyralid, the comparative transcriptome sequencing was completed between the leaves infested with bean pyralid larvae and no worm of soybean (Gantai-2-2 and Wan82–178) on the Illumina HiSeq™ 2000 platform.

Sclerotinia Stem Rot (SSR), caused by the fungal pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, is ubiquitous in cooler climates where soybean crops are grown. Breeding for resistance to SSR remains challenging in crops like soybean, where no single gene provides strong resistance, but instead, multiple genes work together to provide partial resistance. In this study, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed to dissect the complex genetic architecture of soybean quantitative resistance to SSR and to provide effective molecular markers that could be used in breeding programs.

Soybean, a major legume crop native to East Asia, presents a wealth of resources for utilization. The basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factors play important roles in various biological processes including developmental regulation and responses to environmental stress stimuli. Currently, little information is available regarding the bZIP family in the legume crop soybean.

Soybean is not only an important oil crop, but also an important source of edible protein and industrial raw material. Yield-traits and quality-traits are increasingly attracting the attention of breeders. Therefore, fine mapping the QTLs associated with yield-traits and quality-traits of soybean would be helpful for soybean breeders. In the present study, a high-density linkage map was constructed to identify the QTLs for the yield-traits and quality-traits, using specific length amplified fragment sequencing (SLAF-seq).
