Soybean Glycine max (L.) Merill

Flowering time and maturity are among the most important adaptive traits in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merill). Flowering Locus T (FT) family genes function as key flowering integrators, with flowering-promoting members GmFT2a/GmFT5a and flowering-inhibiting members GmFT4/GmFT1a antagonistically regulating vegetative and reproductive growth.

The present investigation was carried out to study the uptake of micronutrients in soybean growing soils of Dharwad taluk during 2015-16 kharif season. For this purpose 51 representative soybean growing soils of Dharwad taluk were selected. Based on the average grain yields in 51 fields, the entire group was divided into below average and above average yield categories.

Soybean has great potential as an exceptionally nutritive and very rich protein food, which is one of the five most important oil seed crops of the world. Over hundreds of pathogens are known to affect soybean, of which 66 fungi, six bacteria and eight viruses have reported to be associated with soybean seeds. In India, losses due to various diseases are estimated as 12% of total production.

The laboratory study was conducted to ameliorate the aged seeds of soybean mini core set by using various antioxidants and osmotics viz., α-tocopherol (1 %), ascorbic acid (1 %), potassium iodide (2.5 %) and PEG-6000 (1 %). Results revealed that the amelioration with α-tocopherol (1 %) and ascorbic acid (1 %) treatments showed a marked increase in the seed physio-biochemical parameters like seed germination (from 61 % to 74 %), seedling vigour index I (from 783 to 1292), seedling vigour index II (from 330 to 446) and decrease in electrical conductivity (1.80 dS/cm to 1.

Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merill) is a leguminous crop and belongs to family leguminoceae. It is originated in Chaina and it is a major oilseed crop in the world. Soybean is known as the “golden bean”, “miracle crop” etc, because of its several uses. It is an excellent source of protein and oil. In India the area under soybean was 106.94 lakh hectares and production were 126.77 lack metric tonnes. In Maharashtra, soybean occupied an area 38.70 lakh ha area with production 48 lakh metric tonnes. The area under soybean in Beed district is 76.

A field experiment was carried out during kharif 2009-2010 at instructional farm, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh to evaluate the suitable integrated weed management (IWM) practices for soybean. Result indicated that main weed flora was Cyperus rotundus L. integration of and its weed infestation was maximum from sowing to the harvesting of soybean. Integration of herbicides like Pendimethalin @ 0.750 kg ha-1 preemergence + 1HW and IC at 20 DAS recorded significant reducing in weed dry matter and higher weed control efficiency resulting in higher yield.

An attempt was made to screen forty native AM fungal isolates from the soybean rhizosphere of Belagavi and Dharwad districts based on their peroxidise activity and total dry matter accumulation in soybean under the restricted water regime of -500 kPa. Top three fungal isolates viz., UASDAMFS15, UASDAMFS25 and UASDAMFS36 tentatively identified as G. maculosum, G. manihotis and G. globiferum respectively. For pot culture studies three irrigation regimes were maintained viz., -33 kPa -500 kPa and -1000 kPa. An experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with factorial concept.

Streptomyces spp. ANSP4 and ANSCa22 isolated earlier from rhizospheric soil of Akola district of Maharashtra were studied for their biocontrol potential against Rhizoctonia bataticola isolates from the same region. Both Streptomyces strains ANSP4 and ANSCa22 revealed growth inhibition of Rhizoctonia bataticola isolates R1 and R2 by dual culture method. Efficacy of independent applications of these strains on seedlings vigor index (SVI) of R1 inoculated Soybean seeds were tested by paper towel method. R1 inoculation of healthy soybean seeds resulted in drastic reduction in SVI from 1515.
