  • A study was carried out for three years at Dr. Y. S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan to evaluate the effect of different sowing methods and plant densities on oil yield of Tagetes minuta. Different planting methods i.e. broadcasting and seedling planting with varying plant densities S1 (30 x 15cm), S2 (30 x 30cm), S3 (30 x 45cm), S4 (45 x 45cm) and S5 (45 x 60cm) were evaluated under RBD Factorial design. The leaves biomass (pre-flowering stage), flower biomass and leaf + flower biomass (full bloom stage) yielded maximum oil at S3 (30 x 45cm) spacing.

  • Gladiolus is a very popular flowering plant grown for its elegant cut spike. Presently, the Gladiolus corms are planted manually which is time and labour intensive process. It also involves considerable amount of drudgery. Till date very little work on mechanized planting of corms has been reported. In order to carry out the panting operation in specific time and to mechanize this operation for Gladiolus crop, a cup-chain type metering mechanism was developed and its performance was evaluated in linear soil bin.

  • Gladiolus (family Iridaceae) is one of the most important bulbous flower crops due to its long attractive spike with variety of colours, prolonged vase life and its ability to withstand long distance transportation. The role of growth regulators in growth & flowering of gladiolus has received considerable attention recently though very little work has been done on this aspect, hence the present study was under taken. The experiment was conducted in the experimental area of the Department of Horticulture consisting of four concentrations of GA3 (25, 50, 75, & 100 ppm).
