  • Acoustic feedback is a major problem in openfit digital hearing aids, which significantly lowers the signal quality and limits the achievable maximum stable gain. Adaptive feedback cancellation (AFC) is a common and efficient approach, however, it introduces a biased estimate of the feedback path due to a high correlation between loudspeaker signal and the incoming signal, especially when the incoming signal is spectrally coloured, e.g., speech, music.

  • In this paper, we develop a deep reinforcement learning-based routing, modulation format and spectrum assignment (RMSA) algorithm for elastic optical networks capable of provisioning dynamically lightpath services. In order to enhance the network performance, the developed RMSA exploits deep reinforcement learning (DRL) mechanism for selecting efficient route and spectral resource by learning experiences of dynamic lightpath provisioning.

  • The analytical and spectral data supported the binuclear formulation of the complexes with a 2:1 metal to ligand ratio and octahedral geometry. The molar conductance values of the UO2 (II)-complexes revealed their nonionic character. The ligands and their complexes were screened for their antibacterial activities towards the gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and the gram-negative Escherichia coli, as well as their antifungal activities against Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans, in order to assess their antimicrobial potential.

  • New derivatives of 2(3),9(10),16(17),23(24)-tetrakis-(6-methylpyridin-2-yloxy)phthalocyanine (Pc) (2b, 2c, and 2d) were synthesized and their structures were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H NMR, and high-resolution mass spectrometry. The spectral results were in line with the proposed structures. The photodegradation of Orange G (OG) dye in DMSO by the Pc derivatives was investigated. The compounds showed relatively high photodegradation rates that increased with increasing size of the central atoms.

  • Inorganic or inorganic-organic hybrid nanomaterials have great potential for applications in the biomedical fields. Biological half-life is an essential pharmacokinetic parameter for these materials to function in vivo. Compared to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), which is the gold standard, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a faster and more efficient elemental detection method. We investigated an efficient way to quantify the metabolic rate using LIBS.

  • Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial (DVB-T) is the most widely deployed digital terrestrial television system worldwide with services on air in over thirty countries. In order to increase its spectral efficiency and to enable new services the DVB consortium has developed a new standard named DVB-T2. A nearly definitive specification has already been published as a BlueBook as well as an implementation guideline, where the structure and main technical novelties of the standard have been defined.

  • Digital broadcast systems have increasingly been deployed for various services such as Digital Video Broadcasting (i.e. DVB-S, DVB-T, etc.) and Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB). Classical digital broadcast systems were designed with fixed modulation guarantee reliable communication even with very hostile channel environment. DVB-T2 terrestrial television standard is becoming increasingly important. The emergence of it is motivated by the higher spectral efficiency and adopting transition from analogue TV to DVB-T2, or transition from DVB-T to DVB-T2.

  • This paper introduces a principal concept of MIMO bit division and presents its performance with corresponding simulation results. When multiple antenna technique is applied to enhance the spectral efficiency, the original data stream should be divided in a proper way. We found that the way of dividing original data stream, if it is not cooperating well with the originally structured system, may lead to performance degradation. The key idea is dividing the original data bit stream without causing an undesired change of bit order at the output of bit-to-cell demux.

  • The allocation of frequencies traditionally used by terrestrial broadcasting (digital dividend) to International Mobile Telecommunication (IMT) is limiting the evolution of the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) networks for enhanced service offering. Next-generation DTT standards are called to provide increased capacity within the reduced spectrum. Time Frequency Slicing (TFS) has been proposed as one of the key technologies for the future DTT networks.

  • The photocatalytic decoloration of an organic dye, ethyl violet (EV), has been studied in the presence of TiO2 and the addition of b-Cyclodextrin (b-CD) with TiO2 (TiO2-b-CD) under UV-A light irradiation. The different operating parameters like initial concentration of dye, illumination time, pH and amount of catalyst used have also been investigated. The photocatalytic decoloration efficiency is more in the TiO2-b-CD/UV-A light system than TiO2/UV-A light system. The mineralization of EV has been confirmed by Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) measurements.

  • In this paper, a new Space-Time Block Coded Spatial Modulation (SM) scheme based on the Golden Code, called the Golden Coded Spatial Modulation (GC-SM), is proposed and analyzed. This scheme still keeps some main benefits of the Golden Code by satisfying the non-vanishing Space Time Block Code (STBC) criteria. In the signal constellation domain, the GC-SM spectral efficiency is twice that of the STBC-SM.
