The objective of this study is to evaluate the predictive performance of three semi-theoretical approaches for modeling viscosity of binary liquid mixtures composed of 1-alcohols. For the mixtures that contain 1-alcohols with a similar number of carbon atoms, three schemes including the Rough Hard-Sphere model, the McAllister model, and UNIFAC-VISCO were demonstrated to be able to reproduce the mixture viscosity with an average deviation of 5%.

The Charged Hard Sphere (CHS) reference system is applied to study the structural analysis of liquid 3d transition metals. Here we report the structure factor S(q), pair distribution function g (r), interatomic distance r1 of nearest neighbour atoms and coordination number n1 for liquid 3d transition metals viz: Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu. To describe electron–ion interaction our own model potential is employed alongwith the local field correction due to Sarkar et al (SS). The present results of S(q) and g (r) are in good agreement with experimental findings.

Electric field distribution of positive streamers during propagation was determined with the finite element method by using COMSOL multiphysics. Modelling was performed at 210 kV and 270 kV. The geometrical shape of streamers was modelled with cylinder and sphere for the case of 210 kV while a growing cylinder was used for streamer propagation at 270 kV. In addition, a spherical model was used for determining the relationship between the branching of streamers and the electric field at the tip of branches.

A new fast least-squares method is developed to estimate the shape factor (q-parameter) of a buried structure using normalized residual anomalies obtained from gravity data. The problem of shape factor estimation is transformed into a problem of finding a solution of a non-linear equation of the form f(q) = 0 by defining the anomaly value at the origin and at different points on the profile (N-value). Procedures are also formulated to estimate the depth (z-parameter) and the amplitude coefficient (A-parameter) of the buried structure.

The topological Lifshitz phase transition is studied systematically within an effective model of QCD, in which the chiral symmetry, broken at zero temperature, is not restored at high temperature and/or baryon chemical potential. It is found that during phase transition the quark system undergoes a first-order transition from low density fully-gapped state to high density state with Fermi sphere which is protected by momentum-space topology. The Lifshitz phase diagram in the plane of temperature and baryon chemical potential is established.

We conclude this paper with a description of our preliminary architectural design for the Piazza system (Figure 1), which focuses on the dynamic data placement problem mentioned above. Our goals are scalability even with large numbers of nodes and moderately frequent updates. We model a data origin as an entity distinct from the peers in the system (though a peer can actually serve both roles) — Piazza can only guarantee availability of data while its origin is a member of the network, and only the origin may update its data.
