  • In this paper, an equivalent circuit model of parallel power MOSFETs describing the dynamic current-sharing behaviors from the turn-off state to the conducting steady state has been studied. The equivalent circuit model represents the relationship between each power MOSFET’s gate voltage with respect to the sharing current. The performance of the equivalent circuit model is validated through a comparison of the sharing current with respect to the gate voltage curve obtained from the proposed model and that of the experiment.

  • The variability in water retention in soil is primarily attributable to soil texture which is mainly responsible for pore geometry and discontinuity, when compared to soil mineralogy. Under field conditions soil moisture variability is a major constraint for proper soil water management. In the present study, a pot experiment was conducted with an objective of assessing the effect of soil texture on moisture content and its depletion rate. For this purpose, the soils of seven variable textures were pre saturated and allowed to follow a drying period up to 15 days.

  • Accelerated oxidative damage is one of the hallmarks in both sickle cell disease (SCD) and thalassemia major (TM). A decreased antioxidant level is found in both diseases. Our study was carried out to evaluate the variation in serum levels of Selenium and Vitamin E among a group of transfusion dependant Egyptian SCD and TM patients, further more to correlate these levels with iron overload status or transfusion requirements.

  • This paper reports the results on the predictions of behavior of AP-1000 nuclear reactor fuel rod under steady state operating condition by using FRAPCON-4.0 software. The predictive items were the temperature distribution in the fuel rod, including fuel centerline temperature, fuel pellet surface temperature, gas temperature, cladding inside and outside temperature, oxide surface and bulk coolant temperature; and gap conductance and thickness.

  • For a fuel element with such high heterogeneity, we have proposed a two-temperature homogenized model using the particle transport Monte Carlo method for the heat conduction problem. This model distinguishes between fuel-kernel and SiC matrix temperatures. Moreover, the obtained temperature profiles are more realistic than those of other models.

  • In Part I of this paper, the two-temperature homogenized model for the fully ceramic microencapsulated fuel, in which tristructural isotropic particles are randomly dispersed in a fine lattice stochastic structure, was discussed. In this model, the fuel-kernel and silicon carbide matrix temperatures are distinguished. Moreover, the obtained temperature profiles are more realistic than those obtained using other models. Using the temperature-dependent thermal conductivities of uranium nitride and the silicon carbide matrix, temperaturedependent homogenized parameters were obtained.

  • The design of b-glycosidases with planed substrate specificity for biotechnological application has received little attention. This is mostly a consequence of the lack of data on the molecular basis of the b-glycosidase specificity, namely data on the energy of the noncovalent interactions in the enzymetransition state complex. In an attempt to fill this gap, sitedirected mutagenesis and enzyme steady-state kinetic experiments with different substrates were conducted, using as model a digestive b-glycosidase (glycoside hydrolase family 1) from Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera) (Sfbgly50).
