Temperature and grain moisture content are the main factors affecting grain spoilage in storage. These factors have a significant impact on the maintenance of quality, insect, fungus, and pest development. The main objective of this study was to determine the CO2 concentration and respiration rate of hulled einkorn wheat in different temperatures (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 °C) and grain moisture contents (9.1%, 11.5%, 13.8%, and 15.9%, wet basis) by means of CO2 sensors.

Cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.] is an important tropical legume crop, its grain contains about 25% protein and 64% carbohydrate, therefore, it is also called as a vegetable meat. In storage, Callosobruchus maculatus, also called cowpea beetle, cowpea weevil or bruchid, is regarded as the most important and common pest of cowpea both in Africa and Asia. All vigna crops except rice bean are susceptible to bruchids. So in this context in the present study the 100 stabilized families in F6 generation of cross between cowpea and rice bean were evaluated.

Insects cause great damage to agricultural crops. A secondary effects of pest is viral, bacterial and fungal infection where are facilitated by the damages and injured to crop plants by insects and mites. The yield loss of crops by nibbling, injury and growth retardation is estimated to be 20% - 30%. An additional 10% is lost during post harvest storage and transportation. The methanol extract from leaves of Aegle marmelos was investigated to control insect infestation of stored food commodities viz. maize, rice, cowpea and wheat flour during from Ostrinia nubilalis, Spodoptera littoralis, Callosobruchus maculates and Tribolium confusum. After introducing the test insects, stored food samples were fumigated with methanol extract from leaves of Aegle marmelos at 500 μg/mL (ppm). The methanol extract significantly enhanced feeding deterrence in insects and reduced the grain damage as well as weight loss in fumigated food samples infested with all insects.

The wheat varieties HD-2733 and K-307 were found moderately resistant against Sitophilus oryzae in which higher hardness, lower moisture, lesser eggs, progeny and population with longer developmental period and lesser grain weight loss and damaged grain were recorded. Rest wheat varieties found susceptible to Sitophilus oryzae. Hardness having negative association with pest infestation. While moisture showed positive relation. The fecundity and progeny were positive relation with percent weight loss and damaged grain.
