We provide the first country record of Opisthotropis durandi Teynié, Lottier, David, Nguyen & Vogel, 2014 from Vietnam based on a single snake specimen from Dien Bien Province. The species previously was only known from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos). DNA sequence data of a male specimen from Vietnam match those of a specimen of O. durandi from Phongsali province, Laos, and the newly collected individual from Vietnam also corresponds to O. durandi in terms of diagnostic morphological features, except for a slightly higher ventral number (185 versus 177−181).

The result pointed out that only 5 g of soft tissue from N. glans (equivalent to 2–3 specimens) containing maximum toxicity detected in the present study may cause human death if consumed. Fhe first time, this study identified TTXs in the gastropods as a causative toxin in the poisoning in Vietnam. Moreover, 65.5% of studied specimens with high toxicity higher than 100 MU/g, including 16.1%, showing extremely high toxicity (> 1,000 MU/g). The results suggested that this gastropod is quite dangerous for human consumption and should be alerted to public awareness.

In this study, numerous Grateloupia spp. collected from coastal Vietnam and voucher specimens were used for morphological observation and phylogenetic analyses. Both analyses for samples collected at Nha Trang reveal a new record of G. yangjiangensis. The phylogenetic trees indicated that the herbarium vouchers labeled ‘G filicina’ and ‘G. livida’ from other locations of Vietnam group to G. yinggehaiensis clade. In addition, the phylogenetic trees also showed that the unknown Grateloupia sp. recently collected from Cat Ba Island is Phyllymenia taiwanensis. Therefore, a new record, G.

The freshwater shrimp species Caridina cucphuongensis (family Atyidae) was poorly described by Dang (1980). Moreover, the taxonomic status of this species is hard to verify as the types have been lost. This study provides a redescription of the species and designation of a neotype specimen.

The study investigated the Phaeophyceae during the year 2019 at sixteen sampling sites representative for Cham islands. Specimens were collected by scuba diving, snorkelling and walking at the upper tidal zone in both dry and rainy seasons. Twenty-five species of the Phaeophyceae identified for Cham islands from four orders, four families and eleven genera.

Vietnam is one of the richest areas in the diversity of Begonia (Begoniaceae) in Mainland Southeast Asia with more than 90 recorded species. In this study, we recorded an additional species of Begonia for the flora of the country. The specimens of newly recorded species, Begonia wenshanensis C.M. Hu ex C.Y. Wu & T.C. Ku were collected from 2019 to 2021 in Phia Oac – Phia Den National Park of Cao Bang Province, and Hoang Lien National Park of Lao Cai Province.

This study aims to elucidate geographic variation of C. dracula by comparing 23 craniodental measurements of the specimens from six localities on the mainland and island of Vietnam. We used principal component analysis (PCA) in order to evaluate variation in the size and shape of C. dracula.

In Vietnam, several authors (Pham Hoang Ho, 1999; Nguyen Tien Ban, 2003) have taxonomically studied Myricaceae, and recorded one Myrica esculenta Buch.- Ham. ex. D. Don with three varieties; M. esculenta var. balansae Dode; M. esculenta var. chevalieri (Dode) Phamh; M. esculenta var. tonkinesis (A. Chev.) Dode. However, Chan and Huyen (2000) recognized one to two species of Myrica for Vietnam. They recognized Myrica rubra from Vietnam but did not provide any information about distribution, examined specimen, as well as morphological characteristics.

Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma genitalium are infectious pathogens resulting in non-gonococcal urethritis and complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and infertility. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of U. urealyticum and M. genitalium in women with secondary infertility and the related factors to these infections. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out from July 2017 to June 2018.

This study was conducted to determine organophosphate ester compounds in indoor dust in Hanoi - a populated city in Vietnam. In the study, the concentration and distribution of fifteen organophosphate esters (OPEs) were analyzed in indoor dust specimen. In general, the recorded total concentrations of OPEs in dust ranged from 2.7 to 14.1 g/g and the average quantities varied from 0.2 to 1.0 g/g.

In this study, DNA barcoding technique of mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene was used to classify 56 specimens of Carangidae from three coastal areas (Northern, Central and Southern) in Vietnam to evaluate the effectiveness compared to the morphological classification method. Results showed that 21 species belonging to 16 genera were determined by the COI barcode while 18 species (16 genera) were determined when using morphological method.

Panax L. is a small genus in the Araliaceae family. In Vietnam, this genus is distributed in the high mountains in the North and in some high mountains in the Central Highlands. In traditional medicine, roots and rhizomes of all Panax species are of high utility. Recently, the finding of new distributions of some Panax species in Vietnam has caused much controversy and confusion. This study investigates 27 fresh specimens of 6 taxa of Panax genus that have been collected from 6 provinces of Vietnam.

Cyclosorus fukienensis Ching (Thelypteridaceae), a new record for the flora of Vietnam, was studied, compared and described. Before, this species only distributed in China (Fujian, North Guangdong, South Hunan, South Jiangxi, South Zhejiang). This species differs from the closely related species Cyclosorus interruptus (Willd.) H. Itô and Cyclosorus acuminatus (Houtt.) Nakai in its shape of the stipe bases, lobed, veinlets, soris, spores.

Griffin’s Leaf-nosed bat (Hipposideros griffini) is one of the largest species of the family Hipposiderodae. In the field, it is recognisable from other hipposiderid species of Vietnam by body size, noseleaf structure, and echolocation frequency. Prior to this study, Hipposideros griffini was only known from two national parks (Cat Ba and Chu Mom Ray) in Vietnam. This paper provides new data recorded from Cat Tien national park, Southern Vietnam, indicating a more extensive distribution of Hipposideros griffini.

A new population of the Son’s Bent–toed Gecko (Cyrtodactylus soni), an endemic species of Vietnam, is reported for the first time from Hoa Binh province based on three adult male specimens collected in June 2018 in a karst cave of Dong Tam commune, Lac Thuy district. The population of this species in Hoa Binh province is threatened by habitat loss through converting forest to agriculture and quarrying of limestone. Assessment of population status in the study area is urgently needed to provide baseline data for conservation measures.
