We evaluated the digestibility of plant oils and their influence on the growth of and fatty acid composition in common carp. Apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of lipids were determined in carp (200.2 ± 40.0g) fed with cod liver oil (CLO), linseed oil (LO), sunflower oil (SFO), or sesame oil (SO).

This study was aimed to evaluate the physicochemical properties and chemical profile of seeds oil obtained from new seven sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) lines as well as their antioxidant and enzyme inhibition activity. The seeds powder was extracted by maceration in n-hexane. The oil content of the seven lines was ranged from 20.04% to 36.65% and was either yellow or pale yellow in color. No significant variations were observed on the refractive index (1.46 unit) of the oil.

Anthocyanins derived from purple carrots were extracted, and identified by using HPLC. Extracted pigments from purple carrots are used as alternative natural red colorants for preparing hard candy and sweet jelly and also red carrot pigment used as natural antioxidant on sunflower oil to delay the rancidity of sunflower oil.

The main component of carotenoids (lyco-red) extracted from tomato peels was lycopene, phytoene, phytofluene, b-carotene, cis-lycopene and lutein. Consequently, the higher stability of carotenoids (lyco-red) extracted from tomato peels was observed in alkaline pH ranging from 7 to 10 and temperature ranging from 40 to 70 C.

This research aims to study a process of steeping in the n-heptane, used for reducing the migration of additives contained initially in toys for babies plasticized with di-octylphtalate (DOP) based on poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) and stabilized with epoxidized sunflower oil (ESO). Two formulations were carried out at different levels of DOP plasticizers (15% and 45%). The migration tests were conducted in the synthetic saliva in the absence and in the presence of α-amylase with or without agitation at 37° C for 1, 3, and 6 h.

The aim of this study was to obtain an oil extract from a Bulgarian green microalga strain Coelastrella sp. BGV and to assess its anticancer and apoptogenic activity in vitro against human tumor cells HeLa by means of MTT and fluorescence microscopy analyses. The results showed that the oil extract obtained by a direct extraction using a common vegetable oil reduces proliferation and induces apoptosis in HeLa cells.

The aim of this work was to prepare metal soaps of epoxidized sunflower oil (ESO) and use them as thermal stabilizers for polyvinyl chloride (PVC). For that purpose, commercial sunflower oil was first epoxidized and then used to prepare (Ba, Zn, Pb, and Cd) metal soap derivatives, which were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The prepared metal soaps derivatives of ESO were used as thermal stabilizers for plasticized PVC.

This study examined the effectiveness of different antioxidative compounds, namely 0.2% BHA (Butylated hydroxyanisole) + BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), 0.03% α – tocopherol, and 3% and 6% tea seed oil (TSO) on the oxidative stability of vegetable oils. Four commonly used oils, viz. rapeseed oil (RSO), peanut oil (PNO), sunflower oil (SFO), and soybean oil (SBO), were assessed by the Schall Oven test method and monitored during the 12-day preservation period under 60°C.

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is an oilseed crop in the Compositae (a.k.a. Asteraceae) that is valued for its oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids. Here, we present an analysis of the genetic architecture of safflower domestication and compare our findings to those from sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.), an independently domesticated oilseed crop within the same family.

Development of high oil content (>40%) inbreds, parental lines and hybrids assumes priority in sunflower. Towards this objective, a high oil content genetic stock HOSuS-1 was developed through introduction and selection from the genotype GP4-1424 imported from Russia. Selections were made for different characters including oil content in later generations

Genetic diversity analysis in diversified CMS and restorer lines in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)
The study revealed that maximum contribution to divergence was made by plant height, seed yield per plant and oil content. Cluster I composed of restorer genotypes which are having higher mean value for volume weight. RHA-91, which was included in cluster III recorded maximum mean value for oil content. Cluster V (CMS109B) showed maximum mean value for oil yield and seed filling per cent. Based on cluster mean values for a given characters, we can select highly divergent genotypes from the respective clusters and can be used in hybridization work.

Increasing seed yield and oil content is one of the most important goals in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) breeding programs. The aim of any plant breeder includes selection from natural population or artificially developed for one or several characters. In the present investigation, twenty sunflower hybrids were evaluated for various parameters under field conditions to estimate genetic parameters, correlation coefficient and path analysis.

Sunflower is one of the four most important oilseed crops grown worldwide and the nutritional quality of its edible oil ranks among the best vegetable oils in cultivation. Sunflower oil has been traditionally appreciated in the world oil market. However, new emerging markets are demanding changes in oil quality for both food and non-food applications. Nutritional and functional properties determining oil quality are primarily determined by the fatty acid composition of oil. Seed oil content and composition are determined by genotypic factors and environmental conditions.

The present study was carried out to determine the synergistic effects of edible oils (Palm, sunflower, cotton seed, rice bran, castor, sesame) and non-edible oils (Neem, pongamia, citronella, rosemary, thyme, jatropha and lemongrass) in the suppression of malathion resistance Sitophilus oryzae (L.) and Tribolium castaneum (Herbst.) by adopting residual film method. Among edible oils, sesamum exhibited high level of malathion resistance suppression in S. oryzae with SR of 74.
