Supplementation of trace minerals

Selenium (Se) has been recognized as an essential micronutrient for nearly all forms of life. In recent decades, broiler responses to dietary Se supplemental levels and sources have received considerable attention. On environmental grounds, organic trace mineral utilization in practical broiler feeds has been defended due to its higher bioavailability.

Twelve indigenous Deoni heifers in their last month of gestation period were selected based on their dam’s lactation yield and lactation length. The experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of antioxidant [vitamin E (vit E)] and trace minerals [selenium (Se), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn)], high energy diet supplementation and its effect on allometric and physio-biochemical parameters in crossbred cows during transition period. For this, advanced pregnant crossbred cows (n = 20) of 2nd to 4th parity and lactation potential of >10 L/day at 28 days prepartum were divided into two groups viz. control (CON) and treatment (TRT) consisting of 10 animals each.

This study evaluated effects of organic trace mineral supplementation on hormonal and metabolic profile of primiparous buffaloes. Fourteen animals were randomly divided into two groups control (n=7) and treatment (n=7; Copper@225mg, Zinc@1.0gm per animal per day). Treatment group was supplemented with organic copper at the rate of 225mg and Zinc at rate1.0gm per animal per day respectively, in addition to normal feeding, 60 days before the expected date of calving till the date of artificial insemination.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate blood copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) status of healthy goats (209) managed under semi intensive system in the three different agro-climatic zones of Punjab. For this purpose, two hundred nine blood and hair samples of various breeds of goats were taken. The samples were analyzed for trace minerals by using atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) and the prevalence was recorded. Pellagra: Treatment Treatment of pellagra consists of oral supplementation of 100–200 mg of nicotinamide or nicotinic acid three times daily for 5 days. High doses of nicotinic acid (2 g/d in a time-release form) are used for the treatment of elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels and/or low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol level (Chap. 350). Toxicity Prostaglandin-mediated flushing due to binding of the vitamin to a G protein–coupled receptor has been observed at daily doses as low as 50 mg of niacin when taken as a supplement or as therapy for dyslipidemia.

Thiamine Deficiency: Treatment In acute thiamine deficiency with either cardiovascular or neurologic signs, 100 mg/d of thiamine should be given parenterally for 7 days, followed by 10 mg/d orally until there is complete recovery. Cardiovascular improvement occurs within 24 h, and ophthalmoplegic improvement occurs within 24 h. Other manifestations gradually clear, although psychosis in Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome may be permanent or persist for several months.
