  • Ebook "Orthogonal supramolecular interaction motifs for functional monolayer architectures" describes a combination of orthogonal supramolecular interactions for the design of functional monolayer architectures on surfaces, that can be used as chemical and biosensors in a wide range of applications. The term “orthogonal supramolecular interactions” refers to non-covalent interactions that do not influence each other's assembly properties.

  • In ebook "Liquid crystalline functional assemblies and their supramolecular structures" the design of new molecular architectures based on liquid crystals involves the syntheses of polymers with well-defined structures such as dendrimers and molecules with block structures. Moreover, supramolecular architectures based on liquid crystals have been intensively studied. Supramolecular liquid crystals form well-defined structures through non-covalent bonding including hydrogen bonding and ionic interactions.

  • The increase in new cases of drug resistance to first-line drugs such as ethambutol (ETB) makes it necessary to develop improvements for antituberculosis drugs. A new method for improving the bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) was investigated for preventing drug resistance and side-effects of antituberculosis drugs. In this study, an antituberculosis drug delivery system using β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as the supramolecular carrier of ETB was prepared using the kneading method.

  • Since decades, cyclodextrins are one of the most powerful selectors in chiral capillary electrophoresis for the enantioseparation of diverse organic compounds. This review concerns papers published over the last decade (from 2009 until nowadays), dealing with the capillary electrophoretic application of single isomer cyclodextrin derivatives in chiral separations.

  • Cyclodextrins (CDs) are natural, nontoxic, and biodegradable macrocyclic oligosaccharides. As supramolecular hosts, CDs have numerous applications in many aspects. However, nonsubstituted CDs have the disadvantages of solubility, unspecific recognition sites, and weak interactions with guest molecules. Therefore, new CD-based derivatives are successfully designed, synthesized, and widely used in various fields. This contribution outlines the research progress in CD derivatives.

  • Polymers bearing quaternized 4-vinylpyridine (QVP) groups are known for their antibacterial activities and these polymers can form polyelectrolyte complexes (PEC) with polyanions through electrostatic interactions. PEC formation can be used to adjust the antibacterial activity of polymers of QVP, deliver active molecules, or design antibacterial supramolecular structures. However, the antibacterial activity of PECs of QVP polymers has not been investigated. In this study, a copolymer of QVP was mixed with polyacrylic acid in various molar ratios of components to form PECs.

  • In a previous study we showed that natural polyamines interact in the nuclear environment with phosphate groups to form molecular aggregates [nuclear aggregates of polyamines (NAPs)] with estimated molecular mass values of 8000, 4800 and 1000 Da. NAPs were found to interact with genomic DNA, influence its conformation and interfere with the action of nucleases.

  • We have reported previously that the calcium-depleted form of bovine a-lactalbumin (apoa-LA) interacts with hen egg-white lysozyme (LYS) to form spherical supramolecular structures. These supramolecular structures contain an equimolar ratio of the two proteins. We further explore here the organization of these structures.

  • Natural polyamines (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) self-assemble in a simulated physiological environment (50 mmsodium phosphate buffer, pH 7.2), generating in vitro nuclear aggregates of polyamines (ivNAPs). These supramolecular compounds are similar in structure and molecular mass to naturally occurring cellular nuclear aggregates of polyamines, and they share the ability of NAPs to interact with and protect the genomic DNA against nuclease degradation.
